Burning clutch smell after driving

So I just bought a 2012 1.4L with the 6 speed manual with 100k on it. I thought I smelled something burning on the test drive, but I attributed it to all the semi's coming down a steep hill that I was on since it always smells like that there. I drove a hour and a half home, and it still smelled, but it didn't really have a chance to cool down.

This morning I drive my 20 minutes to work and it smells like that again. Is the clutch going out? Low on fluid? Or am I still getting use to driving a manual again. My other manuals never smelled like this when I first started driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I do need to swap the clutch kit, what else should I buy to replace? I was going to get the tranny motor mounts from one of the websites here, DDM I think it's called. Anything else?

Also how much easier would it be to rent a lift bay to replace the clutch kit? A place will rent one for $25 an hour locally.

Does the clutch slip, or does the engine speed flare without the vehicle moving? You should be able to tell if there is slippage in the clutch fairly readily. A vehicle with 100K miles could very well be due for a new clutch; depending on how it was treated by the prior owner. The clutch master cylinder fluid would have little to do with the clutch slipping; its function is to release/disengage the clutch disc from the flywheel when depressing the clutch pedal. If the pedal isn't depressed, the clutch is fully engaged, and should not slip unless there is a problem with clutch disc or pressure plate assembly. Regarding other parts needed for clutch replacement; a slave cylinder, if not included in the repair kit, and verify that the crankshaft main oil seal isn't leaking and causing oil contamination of the clutch components.

Hot brakes smell just about the same as hot clutches. Papasonic explained it pretty well there, if you don't see what he described you may want to look for tightly adjusted parking brake, or the rear service brake adjustment. Calipers on the front that aren't sliding on the pins smoothly could also cause things to heat up.
