Burnt oil smell occasionally?

I get a kind of sweet corn smell with just a hint of racetrack. Check your fuel line, you might not be running E85.
I often notice it when I start the engine up...
It doesn't burn a drop of oil as far as I can tell tho.

I often get that odor when starting my 1.4 turbo hatch; especially after it is warmed up and restarted. I have yet to determine where the odor originates. I don't see any evidence of oil smoke at the exhaust; it seems that it may originate under the hood, and be drawn into the car via the hvac system. It smells more like crankcase vapors/blowby than burnt oil. I need to have someone start the vehicle while I observe under the hood. This is not an isolated incident; it happens quite frequently upon hot restarts, and the odor is noticable immediately upon startup inside the vehicle. I too notice no measurable oil consumption.

the turbo BMW's at work will have that smell on a hot start up, but the hood has to be open in order to smell it. I do know that they do have oil blow by from the turbo's and its normal for those cars. We have a recall on some breather hoses for brittleness and every single one i've pulled off has a good amount of oil in them. I know its not a sonic but trying to put some insight into the subjet.

I thought I was the only one...Apparently from taking to friends who have had or have turbo cars it normal.

I have this problem coming from the vents, even when the blower motor is not running
The dealer says they can't smell it, kinda disappointing as I can smell it daily.
But 29,800 miles later and running strong !

If anyone believes an abnormal function is the cause of this smell, please see you dealership to have it examined. Keep us updated if they find and issue occurring. I have this exact same issue with my 2013 Sonic 1.4 Turbo. It never happened in the first couple thousand miles but then the turbo went out and was replaced, immediately after, it had a very strong exhaust type smell inside the car upon start up and I noticed that my eyes burned a bit. My boss rides with me for work sometimes and he noticed it. Yet when I brought it back to the dealer, they told me to drive it for awhile to burn off any spillage. One week and a couple thousand miles later, same issue, so I brought it back in. They claimed to find a bad coolant temp sensor but the smell is not coolant. After I inquired about the exhaust smell, the dealer said a loose exhaust clamp was found, but they did not document that upon the repair order. The smell did not seem to be there when I picked it up, but after driving for a few hours, it returned. You can smell something coming out of the vents inside the car and can also smell a very strong smell outside the car at the passenger side towards the defroster plenum. I love the car but cannot stand this problem as I drive about 3500-4000 miles per month in my Sonic.

Me too! Dealer says can't find anything. I believe the slight oil smell is coming in the air intake for hvac also.
