Can the LT or LTZ 6 speed directly replace the RS 6 speed

Hello Everyone... I've done some searching and haven't found much info on replacing the 6 speed manual trans on an RS with the 6 speed from an LT or LTZ. I bought the RS because I wanted leather and rear discs, but I really want the gas mileage from the lower final drive ratio of the LT/LTZ.

Since I can pick up an LT/LTZ trans for about $500, I am thinking about pulling the trigger. Having done very little research, will you please excuse my laziness and tell me if I will have any fitment issues? Has anyone done this swap (or the inverse (LT to RS tranny)?

Not looking for speculation... I've done that already. Please only comment if you've got first hand knowledge. I'd certainly appreciate feedback from the factory guys too... (warranty implications, fitment, tolerance, etc) Thanks!

The trans are basically the same short of the internal gear set. It would fit directly in place, you'd need a tune to correct the speedo though

Yes, it's a direct replacement. You will definitely see improved MPG.

And to be honest, you'll have a friendlier 1st gear take off with the smaller final drive.

Yeah, I'll be going with a non rs trans when I break mine. I'm kinda hoping someone comes up with a swap for something a little stronger. I'd go to a 5 speed if it could hold 300 tq or so
