Censorship?

I want to preface this with the fact that I am a n00b and a big advocate of the 1st amendment and you can take that for what it's worth, but I find the need to censor some of the language pretty off-putting. Perhaps the most bizarre incidence of this is the censorship of the word "s..ex". Are we 14 years old or something?

I would suggest removing censorship from all language. We are all adults here and I would like to believe we can communicate among each other with common decency, void of profane insults or flaming. It would be simple just to issue a temporary or permanent ban to a user engaging in offensive language and inflammatory behavior. I don't think the rest of us who have, lets say, a "colorful" vocabulary should have to suffer because of it

I've been on a few forums(coloradofans is an example) that will ban a user for using any ****ing words that triggers the nanny censor filter. I disagree with this since the filter already took care of the issue, if your one of those people who take offence to that language.. As long as we don't have admins that think they should interpret and make up their own rules then I don't see a problem with the stupid ****ing filter system.

I should add the forum I mentioned above I tried to talk to the owners of the website about them banning even new users without any warning for such a ridiculous offense, They emailed me back and said their admins are doing a good job and they can interpret the rules however they want.

Any rule that alienates and bans users for something so petty seems like it does nothing but lower the number of active forum users whom did nothing but use some expressive or colorful language. As long as your not attacking another forum user I see no issue at all with speaking how you would.

The argument I've heard in favor of it is that it affects search and traffic to the site. A site that routinely triggers nanny filters will rank lower or not show up at all with some filters, so the theory goes. I don't know how much it really affects search results, though. I seem to see a lot of Honda forums showing up just fine with fu-ks and sh-ts on every page.
