Our Sonic has been in and out of the shop for the past month.
Originally it went in for the timing belt replacement @110,000 miles, so we did the package deal and changed out the water pump too.
After test drives and released to home, the following day a U0101 appears. The timing shaft showed a chip off of it so it was replaced. The electrical sheath showed fraying so that was replaced. The battery was old so that was replaced. Tested and released. Next day, again, same code. Replaced the fuse boxes, tested, ok, and released. Now, it has been tested with daily driving for one day, and idle at the curb every day.
Saturday morning the car raced at a high idle and then lowered as it warmed. Today, Sunday, it started with a normal idle @ 1100 rpm and warmed down to 900 rpm. But, check engine light was lit. OBD says U0101 again. Now what? This car is becoming a money pit. The only blessing we have had was the shop waived the expenses of replacing the wire harness and timing gear @ $3100 00, due to their poor decision making.
We paid for the timing belt package, tire rotation, new battery plus labor, and the fuse boxes replacement, (which was only available as used and from out of state) @ around #1800.00 for these services.
So, now what? TCM? transmission? Sell as-is?
