Colorado RallyCross 2018 Points Event #1

The Sonic did awesome today. Competed in P2 class (prepared 2wd, light mods and rally tires allowed) and took 2nd in class (7th overall out of 86 drivers)

We competed at Front Range Airport in a giant field. Great surface for rally tires, got great bite even without an LSD. I have to give the GM Performance Suspension it's props. The car is really settled at speed in the dirt

The fastest car of the day was an 02 Mini Cooper S... he ran FAST and clean (no penalty cones) and beat three of the fastest AWD cars by 5 seconds on the day. Who says wrong wheel drives aren't fast?

That looks like good fun and you did really well, I'm sure you had a blast. How did that white sonic do?

I'm most surprised to see the new S60 on the list, is there a story behind that? Doesnt seem like the typical new Volvo driver lol.

Thanks man, I was really surprised with where I ended up . The top of this list are people who have done this for longer with better cars and many have competed at Nationals, and won. Pleased with the results for sure

The white Sonic ran on all season tires, was a 1.8 auto and his overall was about 244. Not bad for total first timer

The big Volvo was a guy that's still building his rx and stage rally car. Considering he was on the stock tires it ran quite impressively.

Grab some snow tires, get out and try it. If a Volvo can RallyCross so can a Sonic

You were first bud (#1), plain and simple (in my mind anyways) those judges need a slapping !

1. Clearly you are representing the mighty US of A in an American built car (ok ignore the bit that the Lotus Engineering people may have had a hand in the engine design) so you should get penalties removed for that alone !

2. The Mini guy really has no shame, he is driving a car built by the Germans, bearing the name of a guy (Cooper) who served in the British Royal Air Force during WW2, bombing the Germans. Its like 'yeah you tried to decimate our country and invade, but hey have all our car manufacturing and the name of one of our best Car makers !' opcorn:

3. Probably the mini is a 1.6 running around 165hp so that's like a HERD of horses ahead of you.

Clear in my mind bud you are the champion of that event, a big well done.
(Insert Smiley waving the checkered flag !)

STILL think of his repair bills compared to yours few more events and its off to the breakers yard for team Mini.

Also did the Mitsubishi Evo just like take a straight line and kill ALL the cones LOL.

That makes sense with the Volvo driver, gotta keep the skills up somehow. Why doesnt he just stick with racing that? If it aint broke..

Almost graduated then moving across town, wedding, honeymoon, ugh. If the budget allowd, I'll spend some dough this summer on race time and dyno time.

Clearly Maddog, the EVO is so powerful it doesnt need to turn opcorn:

I got a steal on a set of 2 cruze steelies a while back for drag radials until I lost faith in the M32 launching. Once I get some time to seal up the trans, should be good to go. What do u thinj about just junk tires with maybe 20-30% tread? People are pretty much throwing away tires on craigslist.

Those mini cooper S cars are just fast, we got one here that does quite well in the stage rallies. He had to recently rebuilt the entire rear suspension and put in a custom setup using fox shocks from a side by side to handle the abuse. I am sure he's got a limited slip diff too. Here's a pic of the car recently just for show!
