crank sensor question

hey guys,
it's not about my Sonic...but i have an tecnical problem with my Opel Senator...
There is no signal from the crank sensor to the ECU...just 0,04V and normal has to be pieks from 12V by idle...:sadbanana:
I've changed the sensor for an new one...but no differance...the cable is also okay...what can i do...?

crank sensors can be a nightmare on some cars. Example. My coworkers Dodge. He replaced his crank sensor as well, only to have the CE light back on with the same code. He finally broke down and took it in. Come to find out, the crank had to be in a specific position BEFORE inserting the new sensor. Once the crank was in the right position, the sensor was inserted, no more CE light, car runs like new. Another example is a buddys Ford. It had to be set with an ohm meter.

My Jeep needs a TPS right now. It also needs to be set at a certain OHM before installing.

In other words. Even sensors can not be replaced in the driveway anymore. Some of them require meters and such.

Your OPEL may be one of those cars. Take it to the dealer or trusted repair shop! (Not a universal tire shop)

How did you check the wiring from the sensor to the ECM? It is entirely possible to have it read okey with an OHM meter, but really be bad. As long as 1 strand of the wire is making a connection across a breakit will read okay, but not be enough to properly send the signal through.

My snap on diagnostic tool has a sweet option. It has a program that will detect wire shorts

i cheked the ECU with an digital multi meter...the Opel is from 1992...so old school technicks...
I peel off the connection, to get to the wires...
there is no reseting from the ECU...just take off the battery...and that's it...
Can't see if there are wire shorts...

What I am talking about is not a short, but a break. Its easy to figure out a short with just a DVOM. In a round about way I can detect shorts with the Tech II, just a shame that its not updated past 2007 and I dont have the CANdi module to talk to newer vehicles.

sounds like you may have a bad computer. does ituse the old style MEMCAL chip? I know GM NAO had a big problem with them in the US in the early 90s.

don't know what a Memcal chip is...?
it has an Motronic 1.5 ECU, and a 10 pin OBD port on the inside of the engine compartment...
