Custom exhaust?

I'm virtually new to most aspects of aftermarket performance parts. I have already ordered the Stage 1 kit from BNR and I am now looking into getting a turbo back exhaust. Not really looking for much sound. More so, power. I have been told before that getting a local shop usually comes out far cheaper than ordering a prebuilt kit. Wondering if anyone has any exp, tips, or suggestions for me? Price range? Do I need/have to buy parts separate and bring to them? What should I be asking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well each shop is different. I have a custom exhaust on mine. Mines catback to a glasspack and a tip. Cost about $250. Now in my opinion. U cant have performance without sound. If u have a 1.4t u need an open exhaust. U need to let that turbo breathe. Imagine trying to breathe through a straw. Pretty hard. Now try to breathe through a hose (of equal length) its a lot easier right? With turbos you dont really need back pressure (dont let the shop tell u otherwise) if you want it relatively quiet then that means a bigger muffler which will obstruct airflow and provide backpressure. So if you want a big muffler then dont go smaller than a 2.5 exhaust. The shop should provide all the parts but again, that depends on the shop.

I have a cat back system made of 2.5" pipe. I used a full size magnaflow muffler same dimension as stock. The system sounds great not ricer obnoxious sounding but a really nice low note. Got it done for 300 including parts, I do have a connection with the shop I used and I sell parts for a living.
The only complaint I have is it not loud ENOUGH. I plan on having a off-road pipe made and see how that is.

If you have a 1.4 I would run the MPFab anaconda turbo to cat back and then the ZZP cat back with a muffler and resonator. With the two mufflers and a high flow cat you will get about as quite of an exhaust as you can get and get the best flow. If you have the 1.8 I would go with the ZZP catted test pipe and cat back w/ a BNR header (if the header goes to the cat back I would have a high flow cat welded in).

I have the 1.4. I guess I just don't want that rice burner sound and nothing too extreme. I would just really hate to drop $500+ on something that is just going to annoy the crap out of me every time I drive it but quite may not have been the right word. No obnoxious and over-bearing.

There is a droning sound when I'm cruising over 40, but I like it it's not annoying rather pleasant.

The anaconda and the zzp full turbo back do look very tempting but I was just wondering if it would be possible to get something close to this set up without dropping so much cash. Guess you gotta spend some dough if you want the best though

Yeah with the 1.4 a turbo back is the way to go. On the 1.8 I have header back and I got the headers on sale for 400 last year and my catback was 250 or so. Still pricey. Not to mention I messed around with test pipe vs no test pipe and muffler vs no muffler and adding a resonator etc

I experimented with sound a lot and I spent too much $$ haha - do it right the first time man

Bnrs headers are not cheap china crap. They are good, high quality parts. High quality comes with a price though
