Custom intake

So this is what my shop did, they kept the piping from the old intake and slapped a k&n filter on it in the ram intake box.

What are your guys opinion on this?

It's a decent redneck Intake and it works but your still going to run into the oem rubber hose issue.

I would also check your fuel trims to make sure that filter is not effecting the fueling

They make an element "sock" to keep leaves and debris off the filter to keep it clean longer. A pre-filter if you will

It's a glorified noise maker, might add a pony or two just from having a better filter, but it's essentially just gonna make a bit more noise. Adding a K&N filter should do nothing to your fuel trims. The difference is negligible. The same could be said if you had an absolutely filthy air filter and swapped it out with a brand spanking new factory one. Just a hair more airflow and a bit more sound. Congrats on staying cheap, that's the key with these cars...cheap.

I think I would tell them to put it back and replace the parts they altered to make it work. That looks like a hack job. If you paid more than the cost of the filter for that you got ripped off.

You would do that with an Ultragauge or similar. Some cone type filters alter the flow of air past the MAF sensor enough to skew it's readings, this usually causes a drivability and/or fuel trim issue.

The rubber hose from the filter to the throttle body is made out of a low quality rubber which degrades and cracks over time which usually triggers a CEL. You would need to simply keep replacing it every time that happens or upgrade to aluminum tube and silicone couplers like several people have done in this thread:

Ive read the Hard Piping SAB but the setup is diff on the non turbo.

Any threads I'm missing. My intake tube started cracking
