Dash & door panel inserts

Has anyone yet changed or replaced the dash and door panel inserts?

My car has those horrible redish-orange panels that look just horrible.

I just got off the phone with the dealer a few minutes ago and they are going to check weather those panels can be changed with the gray or black ones without having to replace the whole door panels and whole dash.

One of the guys on here swapped his out with black (I think he had the grey) and then had a for sale thread on them when he sold his car. Check the sale section and see if he's still go them.

The door panels would be replacing the dash would be easier ad you just got to remove them but as far as i know I'm the only to try yet and i diped mine. Lol

Dealer called back and said the only way they can do it is to replace the both whole door panels and whole dash at a ridiculously high price. Maybe I can find the GM part numbers of the inserts...

The door need replacing and i think the rs is the only sonic to come with black dash inserts. So you would never rs doors and dash. The inserts screw on the dash and the passenger side connects to the air bag. Cheaper to just paint as I'm sure you got quoted a few grand on dash and doors

if it is possible to swap these i would love to know as i have the grey ones in my orange sonic and i hate them i would love the orange inserts!!!

if the two of you swap parts i.e. door pannels and inserts it is completely possible

That sounds like a good idea. I need to do some research on how to correctly and cleanly remove the panels without damaging anything.

You know i do know a member who did that and i think he wrote how i cant remember...but it is easy. Well aside from seperating the airbag fro the passenger pannel. I didn't do that but I'd assume yoy would want to it looked easy just dodnr care to do it my self..

So here is what you do without pics lol..

Remove radio and the cubbys on either side.

Pop the black oval off the back of the speedo and the bottom of the speedo there is a leather thing. Remove those and 3 screws and the speedo comes off.. then remove the trim on the left by the door to reveal screws and then the grey/red thing should pop up

On the passenger side there is 3 screws under the cubby and more in the door like the left side. Then remove the glove box by pulling up then remove the thig attached. In the gaping hole you should see the air bag. Holding it i you should see a wire harness and w bolts remoce them and the trim should pop out..

Lastly the doors. 2 screws one at the handle and one at the latch tuen remove the trim by mirror so u dont break it. Pull out from the bottom to get the pins out the up to remove fron the window sill/lock pin
