Detroit paper says Sonic sales strong

The Detroit News reports General Motors could have a winning hand in the growing U.S. subcompact market, with sales of Sonic gaining market share, and the automaker readying the launch of the even smaller Spark minicar. this summer.

In a story dated March 26, the paper also says some dealers are having trouble getting enough Sonics to meet demand.

It seems to me that it's not that they are not meeting demand, its that they are not making the vehicle everyone wants. There are plenty of Sonics on dealers lots in Cincinnati but the majority of them are LS or LT models. Or they are not the right color, or the right engine blah blah blah. I searched all over for a crystal red tintcoat LTZ 1.4 turbo 6 speed manual with a sun-roof. So while there were plenty of Sonics, there wasn't any like the one I wanted. I ended up having to order direct and wait it out 6 weeks.

I ordered mine in March, received it on April 28, well worth the wait love it. LTZ Automatic with sunroof, blue topaz metallic

I've only about 3-4 Sonics here in Charlotte since the car has come out. One of those was a work/company vehicle. I've seen plenty of Sonics on dealers lots as well but either they aren't what people are looking for or they are custom ordering their own.

It would be interesting to see how the Sonic has/hasn't impacted the Cruze sales. The Cruze is a little bit more expensive than the Sonic but is a much bigger car (length/width) than the Sonic. Also maybe people are going to wait for the new Chevrolet Spark coming out later this summer. I doubt that though because most people don't know what the Spark is. It will be a smaller/city car and cheaper (price) than the Sonic.

Don't tell me that was a Sonic rpm and and speedometer in the Spark...smh That car reminds me a lot of the Scion iQ i test drove before driving my Sonic. Except I think the iQ and the Spark both are horrible. Just my opinion from watching that review. Glad I own a Sonic, I was seriously thinking of waiting for the Spark because it was in the Transformers 2 movie and looked cool. Glad I didn't wait. Sonic FTW! :banana:

Don't need to tell you, because in the Spark the speedometer and the tachometer are reversed. I personally prefer the setup the Sonic uses.
