Sadly tho these cars have a really cheap and primitive turbo set up. The turbo dosent do a whole lot. Luckily it’s a little extra pick up on the high way and cheap to replace.
I can barely tell when I hit boost in the Chevy Sonic. In the Mini Cooper S or M235i lol you knew cuz you were gone. This car it’s like ohhhhhh **** their it is and you laugh about it.
I agree with you tho. Their should be a better turbo set up. Although it’s extremely cheap to replace the thing yourself it’s all one piece. M235i and Mini Cooper S you’ll be out some cash.
Mini Cooper S get out at 100k miles the damn turbo is expensive. M235i pretty reliable, but everything expensive. Chevy Sonic. All cheap including the turbo. But the turbos a joke. Lol. Personally I’d just run it till it dies. They aren’t expensive. Unless your looking for crazy power. Again going to take way to much cash on this car.

One thing the Sonic does well is handling. But it’s no where near where it should be. You can do some cheap upgrades for that. Take exit ramps like no Tommorrow. Lol. Make it a fun little daily

They don't make a more robust stock turbo. Theirs is an upgrade which requires tuning to use.

This is my first turbo car. I can tell when the turbo kicks in at highway speeds. Usually when I'm exiting a construction zone going from 50 mph to 70 mph. It's amazing how the car just takes off, lol!

Honestly, mine had the typical crack in the WG seat and I want to upgrade to the BNR but can't afford it yet, so rather then spending the $650 on an oem, I bought a $300 Maxpeedingrods.com rebuild/knock off and its surprisingly ok. It's about exactly what you would expect for $300, but honestly it spools up faster because they use a lighter aluminum inducer blade (and the WG isn't cracked). The WG actuator hoses are garbage so I just used the stock ones, and the manifold casting gets a little tight on the top manifold barrel nuts during install. Other then that it's a decent turbo for my daily until I can cough up the $2k for the one I want. Plus I had an oil leak issue with the first one (I blew a charge pipe and it may have caused trauma to the seals) and they sent me a new one, they just wanted pictures showing the oil leak.
I order turbos and engine upgrades from this site, there are a lot of Chevrolet parts here. The last time I changed made 3.5 ecoboost turbo upgrade, all the parts were of high quality, they also write a lot of useful information about spare parts
