GogoLink is now to be called *sigh* BringGo.
(What moron decided on that one?)
The app *should be available in a few months and much to my dismay, the MyLink unit will have to be reflashed at the dealership for you to get it.
(It means that even IF we were to figure out how to write a MyLink app we would have to figure out how to flash it to any MyLink we wanted to use it on.)
Needing OnStar is true, but there is a caveat.
By "Needing OnStar", we mean the OnStar unit has to be installed, you don't need the service itself.
Basically, the Mic, and possibly BT are routed through OnStar hardware. (GD!)
As an example, in the RPO codes you'll notice the car can be ordered with "OnStar delete", it's a fleet only option, and it notes the loss of MyLink if you order it that way.
BringGo itself is free, but to actually USE it you'll have to get the app on a smartphone/tablet and it is ~$50.
BringGo will use the data plan of your phone to acquire any resteraunt(etc) information near you but the maps and direction capability will be downloaded on your phone and usable even when you don't have signals.
Why do I *really* hate that getting BringGo has to be a dealer reflash?
It's likely that any UPDATES to BringGo that need to reside on the MyLink itself would have to be a dealer reflash making it less likely any bugs will ever be fixed.
NOTE: It IS possible they'll try to correct MyLink-side problems through updates on the phone-side but I believe that's a can of worms.
