drastically reduced fuel economy?

I was getting 6.0 l/100km in Ontario. moved to BC and am getting 7.0-7.4 l/100km

no lights. fresh oil after the trip. what gives!

I am doing less 'highway here more city like...but also driving less overall.

I have no idea what might be causing the drop in fuel efficiency, but I’m going to convert those numbers to miles per gallon (mpg) because these numbers are more familiar to Americans (we could never get on board with the Metric System)....

Before: 39.20 mpg
After: 33.60 mpg to 31.79 mpg

That’s still a lot better than my current fuel economy of 28 to 33 mpg (but this is due to driving around in New York City).

Anything over 30 mpg is pretty good for a Sonic in mixed driving... 39 seems unusually high. Is it a manual transmission?

Yea, my 3 mile drive in city gets me like 30-31 mpg. My recent trips that were 95% highway got me 37 mpg. Between 31-37 for mixed driving seems reasonable.

Driving less . . start/stop short trips with barely a warm up, winter gas blend, hills, traffic . . .. etc

As a BC resident whose spent time elsewhere in Canada, I can give you multiple reasons:

Decreased traffic flow
More lights
More elevation changes
Wetter air

Also, less driving overall isn't going to affect fuel economy. A five minute trip at 7.0L/100KM is going to give the same fuel economy as half an hour trip at 7.0L/100KM.

If you don't mind my asking, where's your commute to and from? Maybe I can help point out a less congested route. I know back on my pickup the fuel economy difference between me taking in Highway 91 vs River Road netted me an extra 30% more range.

I avg about 32-38 in the spring/summer in NY and about 30-34 in the fall/winter using 93, this is mixed driving and allot of spirited driving. Driving a 2012 sedan 1.4T 6MT, I can say I have been able to get much better mpg of 40-46 over course of 6mo when I tried.

I can definitely say I miss my Sonic ATM as it is having the front bumper cover replaced as I had a moron go into reverse in front of me at a red light. I got stuck in a 2018 Dodge Journey Crossroad awd, thing is a gas guzzling pig avg 12.4 mpg after 215 miles. Fortunately today I was able to get a Corolla. Hopefully I have her back by Thursday.
