This Being my first GM built car since my 1986 Pontiac 6000 STE. I was hesitant,
I've never even heard of a sonic. I saw one at a local dealership and was drawn to the look of the front end, Those headlights ya know. In July of 2012 While looking for a new car I found myself at a chevy store.I thought There's that odd looking little car, After test driving a 4 door 1.8 my impression was ok, nothing special, just ok.The salesman said "listen do yourself a favor get the 1.4t you won't be sorry", a year and a half and 29000 miles later as I'm driving home from work through the back roads of north east Ohio and press the throttle to the floor, That same smile goes across my face and I think, Man I sure am glad I got the Turbo. Just thought I'd share that.

Let me guess, you had a lot of transmission problems? I had an 86 6000LE that originally belonged to my mother. It went through 6 transmissions in its 80k mile life with us. Years later, while at school for GM, I found out that tranny had more updates than any other transmission in GM history. At least 10 updates before the 1st car with that tranny was ever sold. It was so bad that GM wouldn't even try to fix the earlier transmissions, they would scrap them and start over. It was actually cheaper to make all of the parts new than to do all of the modifications.

The pontiac 6000 STE was a cult following car much as the sonic is today. 3.6 v6, multiport fuel inj, 4 wheel disc, digital dash. Fast, Quiet 20mpg.However the clearcoat self destructed after 2years and trying to get GM to repaint the car was an exercise in frustration.I have owned fords since.my last being a 2002 focus zx3.I traded it on the sonic with 166000 mile with the original clutch.I might have been lucky but except for routine maint it never saw the dealer, Amazing little car.

Mine had a 2.8l MPI with rear drums and an anolog dash. I didn't know the STE had a different engine. Or rear disks. I knew about the dash though. Maybe I was lucky with the paint. When I sold it in '92 the clear coat was just begining to get cracks in it, no peeling yet. I miss that car, probably because it was my 1st car and I took my road test in it.

My Mistake 2.8L is right. The car had an air leveling suspension, the 4 wheel disk was an option with the Special Touring Edition.I remember driving to Niagara Falls with the wife and kids,While stopped at a light someone yells "Hey Steed", I had no idea what what he was saying till later running into the same guy at a tourist trap when he explained the "Brotherhood of "Steed Owners".LOL

Funny, having milked 19 years and 202,000 miles out of my Mits Galant, I found myself in dire need of a different car. I did some online searching for a new car and most of the time I would close the window after just seeing what the car looked like and then I saw the Sonic... it was all about the headlights. I immediately did some research and never looked back. Ended up getting a Blue Topaz 2014 LT Sedan 1.4L on March 19th and have been loving every minute of it since.

My sonic rides better, is quieter, handles better, and gets better mpg's than my wifes 2013 kia rio.However it's also been in the shop 4 times for various rattles front and rear, the one in the rear they can't figure out. replace shock mount, heat shield and it still rattles like a junker,the Rio no issues
