Euro guy, Sonic lady.

Hello all, I'm mk6sean. I actually don't drive a sonic, I drive a mk6 jetta, But my girlfriend does. I've been involved in the euro car game for quite some time now, I run a static set up on 2001 audi monoblock wheels.

But this isn't a european blog, so I'll get to the point…

My girlfriend sarah drives a gray sonic hatch lt with fogs & rear view camera. With myself being into the car game she started to gain interest. We originally didn't have intentions on modifying her sonic but a few car shows later and after she saw how close knit the community is whether its euro, jdm, or american, it was something that she wanted to be apart of. We started off by setting her up with a pair of OEM base bars, a 38in thule fairing, and a thule bigmouth bike attachment. Pretty similar to the set up that I was running on my jetta. Once we had everything on the car, it looked awesome and I knew that this was gonna be a fun ride. Sadly only 2 nights after the rack and attachments were installed, while parked in the city of buffalo overnight, someone took it upon themselves to steal the rack right off of the car…

So after that happened, we took a break from investing, we got her car fixed and got our finances together. The rest of the summer passed and we had our fun with friends. Now as the winter approaches, we are looking to resume the sonic project for the upcoming spring season. We have high hopes in picking up a set of coilovers and we also would like to order redrilled blqs for the car. Now my purpose here… I have no idea on anything that is sonic related. I'm familiar with coilovers and popular brands, but all of the companies that my friends and myself know are european only. So that's why I came here, from browsing around, you all seem like nice people and I've seen some sweet rides. I'm hoping that one day sarah's project can be viewed on here and we can help people joining the site in similar situations.

Very helpful. Thank you. Is there anything cheaper though? In the euro world, coilovers start out at like $300 for a set of racelands. We're not trying to get anything thats too cheap, but we're looking more in the $400-$500 range. I wouldn't mind picking up a used set either. What do you guys recommend?

I am not aware of anything cheaper, although somebody else may know better. For the price range you are looking at, most people around here are getting lowering springs, like these

Agree ^^ No plans on doing anything to mine, but at two days now I'm already checking out springs, tunes, and other upgrades. I have two modified cars that are supposed to be helping avoid the itch.. but you know...

btw, I was wondering about roof racks on a hatch... there's a new itch now.

The coilovers around here are typically for high performance handling more than anything. There are some around here who have gotten pretty good stance results by using springs, you can find the threads if you look around (take a look here). If you really want to go slammed I guess air bags are probably your best choice.

Well we are still a relatively small community of modifiers. I have been hoping as more companies come onto the market for us, there will be some less expensive options.

I'm looking to up to coils myself from my Eibachs but my current situation doesn't allow. Keep us updated if you run across a budget setup.

Thanks all, after a little bit of thinking, we are gonna probably settle with springs. I'm piecing together air ride for my car, so with that and redrilled rotiforms for the lady, money will be tight. What springs do you guys know of that go the lowest?
