I have been looking around online. Can someone explain a turbo exhaust system for me. Like what is a down pipe and what do you replace a down pipe with. What are my best budget options with ZZP. What are the differences of cat back and cat with 2nd cat delete. What is a secondary cat. Will my check engine lights come on?

Im really just looking for the cat back but no one has any sound clips of a 1.4 with the zzp cat back only.

Also I have seen some people say they ran zzp down pipe and mid pipe then "stock cat back". do they mean the stock zzp or the "stock" exhaust that comes on the car

They mean the OEM exhaust your car came with.....

I'll give you a brief rundown....Downpipe would replace your primary cat(the big "can" connected to your exhaust manifold) the midpipe is the pipe after said primary cat. Your exhaust is made up of 4 parts...Primary cat(which you replace with catless downpipe) the midpipe(Oem is 2", ZZP is 2.5") then you have a secondary cat(which you can replace with a high flow cat or test pipe) then the catback(stock line has a resonator and muffler, aftermarket can have one or the other or both depending on make and preference and comes in different sizes, 2.25", 2.5", 3")

You can run the downpipe and midpipe with the stock line if you wish( I recommend a tune or buying Vibrants O2 fouler to fool the computer, otherwise you will get a code). Other members who have mixed and matched can chime in for sound. I personally have a ZZP turbo back with a resonator added to quite the exhaust note.

Thank you very much. Completely cleared up my confusion. When you say "turbo back ehaust" i assume its from the turbo -> back to the muffler. Stupid question im sure but I work on bikes so turbos are very very new waters for me.

Turbo back is from the turbo to the tip not just to the muffler..... It's a full exhaust replacement from the turbo.

I want my resinator removed and have a straight pipe in its place. I'm ust not sure how it will sound.

Do you mean just remove the resonator and keep the rest of the exhaust stock? Can't say for sure on the Sonic, but I did this on my old Impreza and it sounded like s***. Didn't make any difference in sound other than an extremely annoying buzz.

Yes it would probably void the warranty on the rest of your exhaust after where the pipe is welded in. So if you blow out your muffler it wouldn't be covered. Don't see that as much of an issue. If you want a lot of sound without spending money, hack the muffler off.

You would void the cat back section of exhaust if you hacked off the muffler. Which includes everything after the 2nd cat, or for a visual reference all the exhaust from about the drivers seat back.

Why are you so worried about having a warranty on some mild steel tubing? I can't fathom why this would be such a hiccup, I hope your this worried about preventative maintenance because that has Infinitely more role in how long your Car last.

These cars aren't expensive to work on. As long as you don't really **** with the actual engine or radio (electrical) you're ok.

Nope we just know how to work on our cars and understand what we're modifying and how it will affect not only our car but also our warranty coverage.

I know my intake and exhaust mods will not cause any detrimental effects to my engine or trans. I know I can find a dealer that won't hassle me about them. I know I can convince a stubborn dealer why they won't cause any problems. I know I can easily swap back to stock before I take it to the dealer to avoid any hassle what so ever. I know I don't care about the warranty on the parts I swapped if the dealer mystically finds out I've replaced them, because they're sitting in the garage because I don't want them and I certainly don't need a warranty on something collecting dust and how's it gonna fail in a way they'd warranty it anyway.

Above all else I know if I maintain my vehicle by staying on top of maintenance and not being abusive to my equipment that there is a limited probably I will ever need my warranty and that my car will likely last significantly longer than someone who worries about their warranty and doesn't take care of there stuff.


TL;DR: We'd rather enjoy our cars and keep the warranty on the things we can't afford to fix such as engine, trans, chassis, and electrical than worry about a part we don't even want to be covered (a part that is near impossible to go bad).

We also understand the warranties (plural) and what we're messing with. Something you can't seem to grasp in the least.

But hey not everyone wants %80 more power than stock and 50 mpg per tank on a regular basis .

I'll be removing my muffler(temp only) til i can afford to get a full exhaust from the second cat-back to the rear.
