I purchased the vehicle in July 2017 with 12,000 miles. Since then, I changed the transmission at 15,000 miles, water pump at 36,000km because I was loosing coolant. I am still loosing coolant, changed my coolant tank because it was cracked underneath in 3 places. Still loosing coolant. Air conditioner stopped working July 2018. Outer tie rod has to be changed. Just remembered, my lifters may be shot because of a clacking sound on start-up and the same sound around 2-3000 rpm. This car is driven 95% on the highway and I don't push the car hard. I run the car on supreme 91 gas and let it idle for 60-90 seconds after driving. Lemon

I also own a 2012 although mine's at 156,000km. The past year has required frequent replacements to the cooling system.
Other common sources of coolant leaks for the 1.4 I've seen on this forum so far:
-Both coolant temp sensors (bottom corner of radiator and water outlet on engine) can leak when their O-rings get old.
-Water outlet has cracked on some people.
-Heatercore hose can rub against some sharp casting-lines on the back of the intake manifold creating a pin-hole leak.
Other common sources of coolant leaks for the 1.4 I've seen on this forum so far:

the water pump and transmission (assuming 6 speed auto) had known issues and tsb's extended coverage for some.
ac after 5 years needing service.. thats normal.. having worked on enough of them they last just till warranty ends LOL
tierod at that low miles.. idk passenger side by chance?
engines are noisy i know mine was but usually got quiet after a few minutes.. was told normal. but maybe its your turbo?
91 octane isnt needed for this car its got proper fuel maps for 87 octane just little less kiddy up and go on the butt dyno..
as above for other known issues from Madd...

Little late to call a 2012 Sonic 1.4T a lemon...don't you think?
So you purchased a 2012 Sonic in 2017 with only 12K. Sounds like the car must have sat a lot. Did that clacking sound exist when you bought it? You changed the water pump, but still lose coolant. Probably should have had some pressure testing done instead of assuming. Sounds more like your bad luck and decisions than a lemon car.

Hi, The sound came 6 months later. GM dealer thinks it may be the lifters, but not sure yet. Dealer changed the water pump on an extended warranty specifically for the water pump that ends early next year. Previously added dye to figure out where the leak came from. They found nothing so they changed the pump. Told me after changing it, they found an issue around the bearing. I have a new pump, but issue remains.
