I believe I may have overfilled my 1.8L hatch on the first oil change. I drove the car for about 5 minutes to warm it up, let it sit for about 5, then started the oil change. I made sure to remove the oil cap. I removed the oil pan plug and started the drain process. While the oil was draining, I replaced the filter. This probably took 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes, the oil was dripping out of the pan at a very slow rate. I'd say 95% of the oil had been drained.
I refilled the engine with 4.5qt of Mobil 1 full-syn 5w-30. When I checked the oil this morning, the level was well above the actual gauge part of the dipstick and onto the actual rod itself. However, after driving the car for 15 minutes, then letting it sit for another 15, the oil level seems to be much lower.
Attached is the image of what the dipstick looks like with a hot engine, after sitting for 15mins.
What say you? Is it overfilled or not? I find it odd that I actually put in less than the required amount of oil, yet it appears to be overfilled in the morning.
