Well here is a two week update.
First tank mileage, around 26 mpg. Considering brand new engine, test drove it with 3 miles, bought it with 8, number of small trips, weather, not bad. I fully expect it to improve when the engine breaks in. That should be now, considering how little her engine is, just kidding. Boy the 1.4 turbo looks tiny.
Second, wife has already put seat covers on the front seats. She is adjusting to her car nicely. Our brilliant son figured out how to make her old phone work with the mylink, she is now happy.
A/C seems to work well, had a couple of days in the low 90s, no complaint from wife. Good, I was not sure how well the a/c works on these cars, although our daughter has had her Sonic LT, sedan, with the 1.8, for almost a year, and no complaints from her about the a/c.
My wife and her b/f enjoyed some me time away from family, both mothers, and her friend commented on how quiet the engine was. She seemed surprised a small car could be that quiet, although her car isn't exactly a slouch, a Nissan Altima, about 1-2 years old.
Her friend also liked the smooth ride. We have both noticed some body lean in turns, even with the 17 inch tires. Oh well, it isn't bad, and this car isn't a race car. Does anyone know if the bigger tires emphasize this trait?
When I have driven it, I haven't pushed it hard since the engine is still very green, only 270 miles so far, but the performance seems about the same as our old 93 Saturn SL2 with an auto. This is not a bad thing.
The Sonic is really good so far just to cruise around town, without having to really rev it up. The auto, please let me know, does it learn? Our 07 Saturn Aura XR with the 3.6 had a learning transmission. Some times I am not sure if it is me, probably, but it seems the shifting seems odd, but always smooth.
The back up camera works well, as does the lane departure system. I am not sure how the system to warn about rear-ending a car works, a couple of times I have gotten close to the car in front when stopping, just to see and nothing. I did have my foot on the brakes those times.
With gas prices over $4 a gallon here in San Diego, I am seeing a lot more little cars like our Sonic, Honda Fit, and some Sparks.
Hopefully someone from Chevy will say hello here
