FS: 2013 Chevrolet Sonic LT Turbo Automatic - MI

Well, she's up for sale once again.

Few months back, I was looking to sell it to get something around 15-18k, manual, more power, RWD. Ended up buying a very nice '85 300zx. I'm only looking to sell my Sonic again because I'm looking to save by getting out of the car payment/high insurance and start packing some money away for a down-payment on a house.

I do love this car and it has never had a single issue since I purchased it new. I don't have to sell it, so if I can't get what I'm asking I'll just hold onto it.

The only "mod" it has is the Trifecta Tune which was done on 12/13/13 at 11,700 miles. Current mileage is 29XXX.


FYI, there is a lienholder on the car still. ~7.7k is left. We can set up an account with the bank to pay off the lien and then finish the deal once I receive the title. Whatever works the easiest for both of us. Just wanted to be upfront with anyone, as you wouldn't be able to take the car home in one weekend unfortunately.

I'm asking $11,500. I'm located in the Ann Arbor/Howell MI area.

For me, this whole situation wasn't thought-out as much as it should have been. I put $8700 down on my Sonic, owned it for just about 2 years and now it's worth next to nothing from what I've paid on it. But that's the joy of depreciation and my idiotic mistake of buying a brand new depreciating asset. I understand, my best bet at this point is to continue with the payments for the next ~3 years and then hold onto it for another 5+ years. I should've just bought a nice car for ~$10k back then lol, oh well.

However, at this point in time, it will be more beneficial for me to cut my losses and get something where I won't have a car payment or the higher insurance rates (paying $115 a month for full coverage in MI for my Sonic).


Oh, the green plasti-dip and sticker will be getting removed, FYI to any potential buyers.

Sad to see it go, but I need to put away more for a house. It was a fantastic car and never let me down. I would definitely buy another in the future....if Chevy ever decides to compete with the Fiesta ST/RS or Focus ST/RS.

Through Craigslist, private sale. I had a lien on it, which as you all know makes it that much more difficult. But I'm thankful that my parents lent me the money to pay off the remainder of the loan so I'd have a clean title.

And included with the car was a hitch, a Thule bike rack, and a Trifecta cable/tune.

Yeah, I looked into the route of trading it in and said no way in hell.

I made a mistake and bought a brand new car (Wouldn't have been a mistake if I kept it til the wheels fell off though). I put almost $9k down (on a 19-20k car) on it two years ago, for it to only be worth $11k two years later. But I really need to save up more for a house at this point so the best course of action was to sell the Sonic, get rid of the payments/insurance and just get a cheap A to B car for the time being.

In retrospect, yes I should've just bought a nice used car with my down payment and would've saved so much money. But, I'll never make the same mistake twice. It just bums me out to lose that much money haha. I'm very hard on myself, in regards to finance, health, work ethic, etc. lol

Getting off topic, but how much was the handling affected by the hitchmount bike rack? I am in limbo on whether to put one on or not.

I honestly have never noticed any difference whatsoever in handling with two bikes on the back.

Maybe it would cause an issue if you're attempting to test out the cars cornering ability? lol

All were fairly easy to install.

At least you know now. Buying any car new (especially in the subcompact market) will have immediate depreciative losses most notably when you sell in the first 3 years of ownership. If you buy new and keep for the greater part of a decade, you'll recover those losses especially when general care and maintenance is provided.

My 2006 Buick Rainier was purchased 2 years old with 26,000 miles on the odometer. It now has 130K miles without any major mechanical issues. 7+ years into ownership and after a 3 year, $16,000 auto loan payout, this truck has been nothing but good to me. MSRP sticker was $34,000. But I happened to get lucky and bought it at the height of the "rising" gasoline prices when dealers were basically giving away AWD full body trucks and SUV's. They wanted $20, I offered $16; win win for me.
