I recently purchased an ELM 327 OBDII device to diagnose an issue i had with my truck. This device plugs into your OBDII port an Bluetooth's the information to your phone. So once you download a compatible app such as OBD auto doctor ($9.99 full version). You can watch your gauges on your phone. Perfect for the sonic that doesn't show water temp, intake manifold temp, battery voltage, real-time mpg and more!

You can pick which sensors youd like to view, and watch the numbers live.

My total investment was less than $20 with purchasing the full version of the app which works as a code scanner/clearer

I use Torque Pro for this but same idea. Trouble is bluetooth adds even more lag to your system so numbers you may want instantaneous. .. aren't.

I would like a cheap small tablet and a usb wired version of this, hoping that eliminates lag...but thus far no joy.

What kind of phone are you using I have a Nokia Lumia 920 and didn't notice any lag? Just thought it was pretty interesting for having a car with limited gauge clusters.

Using an iPhone or iPod Touch with an ELM327 Wifi OBD-II | Binaryfactory.ca


Should work for iphone, search the app store for an OBDII app.

All the ELM 327 really does is takes the information from your OBDII system and transmits it via bluetooth, to a device that is bluetooth enabled with a program that can read the information.

Torque is great. Lag is mostly in the cheap adaptor. I have a kiwi Bluetooth device and it is very fast. No lag no problems

Torque is available for the iPhone, but you can only use WiFi with it due to Apple's licensing rules. They do make a WiFi version, but then your phone can't use the cellular network for data.

TLDR: I bought this and gave it to a friend because it won't work with my iPhone.
