Both of these say they come with calibration and the intake says "calibration authorization code". Is this something I can buy, install then take to the dealer and have a prepaid "calibration install"? I'm just wondering if I would also have other dealer cost for the calibration.

I doubt anyone has purchased these yet but hoping maybe someone at GM customer service might be able to answer this.

The cost is fairly high. GM Parts Direct.com shows it about $1400 shipped for both of them. Still considering it though.

I believe how it works with the GM fog light kit, which requires reprogramming the BCM, is that you get an authorization code but the dealer charges you an hour to program it. Those would surely be similar.

The calibration for the intake is to prevent the PCM from triggering codes since the MAF sensor will be in a larger diameter pipe than what it was calibrated for.

The programming that comes with the exhaust is an actual, mild performance retune. It doesn't look like it can be purchased separately from the exhaust. Maybe you can just resell the exhaust system afterwards? It's actually a Borla setup with a Chevy Bowtie engraved on it instead.

I was just reading the GMP descriptions of both those items, and it said ; " Designed for factory fit, with Performance looks. Calibration included for dealer installation".


For 500+ for just the cold air intake, it better come with free flash! GMP prices assume you install these items, then take it to the dealer for the flash. If you want them to do both, then yes that will cost extra.

I want the intake seeing as I have 24+ months bumper-to-bumper left.. but that cost is insane considering other intakes are better at half-price. Dat warranty tho? Worth it?

I would spring for the exhaust if anything. Comes with an actual horsepower bump tune.

As far as warranty goes; when I used to work at a Mazda dealership we never voided warranties on the cars from intake tubes or cat back exhausts. They only turned into customer pay jobs if the actual part they put on was causing problems. Like say a MAF code or lean code etc. But We wouldn't void the transmission warranty because they put an intake tube on it. And that's exactly how you need to word it. You are NOT putting an "intake" on your car. You are putting on intake tube and filter on it.

There is more than one part to the intake system of a car. It's common lingo to call the intake tube an "intake". But it's not at all correct in terms of car language.

I would ask the dealer if they would void the powertrain warranty from putting an aftermarket intake tube and filter on it. They pretty much can't say it will. And if they do void it because of it; I would fight it and make them prove it was the intake tube that caused whatever problem arose. see Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. It was cited to us many times when the new MazdaSpeed 3's came out lol

Does that high cost for the GMPP intake include an engine control module calibration, which is needed otherwise you will be throwing CELs?

You do not need a ecm calibration for a cat back exhaust, which is the GMPP exhaust supplied by Borla.

There can be a power increase with a short ram intake and tune, there are plenty of dyno charts posted over the years to support my statement.

The cat back can be installed and no CELs thrown but the power increase is in the area of 5HP at most. And that would be for a straight pipe no resonator and no muffler.

Only you can say how important it is keeping warranty intact, a priority for me which is why I can confidently state my warranty coverage for my Sonic windows, doors, steering wheel and shifter knob is totally intact.

Uh oh, those are bumper to bumper items, so it looks like I may be no longer covered (37K miles) so hey, I can mod away without fear of a warranty claim being rejected.
