Got my first ticket

Well got my first ticket in the sonic. No it's it for speeding. No it's not for my window tint. It was for my tail light tint. Fine price 112.05

That's why I have been saying that tail light and headlight tints are illegal. Illegal and dumb.

How dark are yours? Mine are only slightly tinted and I'm probably the only one who can tell. I actually talked to my local sheriff about what was and wasn't cool.

Driving a school bus in the fog I almost completely annihilated a Dakota with blacked out tails because I couldn't see his tails, let alone when they changed to brake lights.

A lot of people around me tint their tail lights to an almost unseeable level. There are a few cars that I can barely see at night and can NOT see the tail lights during the day

That's pretty dark. Perhaps you could achieve a similar look by buying those covers that southFLsonic has, spraying them black, and only lightly tinting the part that shows?

I admit I love the look of blacked out tails, but could never do it because of my experience.

Those are tinted pretty dark, I can see why you were ticketed. I agree with Insanika, get the overlays, paint them black and lightly tint the lenses.

Instead of paying to tint them that dark why not just pull the bulbs out?

wow those are way too dark! That sir, is why when i tinted mine i only did a light couple coats to knock down the Cheap Plastic look but still be able to see the Lights when on during both day and night and still have a nice look to the Assembly.

Gave it a nice Black Cherry Color without affecting the Purpose of the Tail Lights. I would love to go darker, but i keep in mind if i did, as you did, it would make it impossible for others to know when i would be stopping. Let's put this into perspective.

1931 Model A after I changed the tail light bulbs to increase brightness from stock due to fear of being rear ended.

First is tail only and second is Brake.



And yes, the brake light really is that bright. The picture is overexposed but trust me its really, really bright.


Untinted bright tail lights save lives. And if you want to argue that, fine, they save money and time by not getting tickets.

What I'm going to do afyer my court date.( got out of it) all I had to do was take it off. Is tape off the round part of the tail light where the light go through and darken the rest of the tail light might do a very light coat to make it pop

Yep. I see way too many people with drop in HIDs scattering light everywhere and tail light tints that are so dark, you can't see them during the day at all.

Then there are the special ones who tint their headlights. Usually that's in combination with the drop in HIDs.

I'd imagine it could be enforced under the part where it says a headlamp must be aimed to comply with inspection procedure.

But I'm not good at understanding that type of legal jargon.

No one ever noticed. Heck, I don't think I have ever had a inspection that actually checked that

Not gonna lie, that's kinda "stupid dark" and illegal everywhere.
Just blacking everything out doesn't look that great in my opinion, plus you have completely lost any light you could use for backing up.

I've had cops behind me quite a few times since I did mine and they have never pulled me over. Probably partially due to my spotless record, but nevertheless...
