I'm stuck between Springfield and Sig, other than an LCP those are the only brands I own (pistol wise). I might pick up a Sig M11 and Beretta M9 down the road since I've carried those while flying, great guns and as a memory to my time in the Navy and will probably pick them up as a retirment gift to myself.

I had a lap...brutal gun to shoot..killed my hands. Lol.

I didn't like shooting the LCP and was about to get rid of it until I added the pierce grip extension, went from one finger to two gripping it and it made all the difference. It's no range gun by any means either.

For those of you that carry IWB during the hot summer months, how do you deal with sweating?

Currently I carry in a kydex sheath with horsehide backing. I chose horsehide because the grain in the horse hide vs cow is tighter, which makes it more water resistant, at least based on everything I've read.

And yet, I notice some moisture in the area of the takedown lever after 45min to an hour sweaty, fast walk in 80* or so. The hide itself was quite wet as well. I am not sure whether the moisture on the gun itself was actual sweat or condensation, but I want to see what I can do about it.

This morning, I applied water repellent to the body-side of the hide. It's your basic water repellent you use on leather shoes, tents, etc, silicone-based. I am hoping that it will further isolate the moisture.

What other good options are out there to keep the gun drier? By the way, I use Hoppe's gun oil specifically formulated for wet/humid conditions.

This is what I was going to tell ya, Scotchguard, but what about that stuff they made the video about?

Maybe try this out over the regular waterproofing sprays, never used this stuff but it looks to be way better than Scotchguard.


Also maybe wear an undershirt is about only thing I can think of.

I'm a very sweaty bastid. The plus side, is that it allows me to tolerate heat very well and not feel uncomfortable in 100+ temps when I'm outside for long periods of time. An undershirt would get soaked thoroughly as well, so I doubt it would do much at all.

LOL I have a friend like that who even if its 75 he is sweating and soaked, he tried an undershirt and it, like you said, made things worse. Have you tossed around the idea of a high OWB holster or is that not even an option? Does your current holster setup cover the entire gun against the skin or does the grip and beavertail touch skin and is uncovered?

Gets the gun off of the skin and away from the body some but I personally hate wearing a holster like this and find myself printing a lot more and barrel peaking out from under my shirt.

Both holsters I have (including the one on order) cover the beavertail but not the full grip. The lower end of the grip touches the skin occasionally.

Not sure an OWB would work well for me, I think I'd print like crazy. Currently, I have no issue completely concealing by just wearing sleeveless active wear shirts. I love those when it's warm and will not sacrifice those. I can only wear them when using my tuckable IWB holsters, because they are fitted; they aren't muscle shirts, but slim.

Oh and I'm 6'7" and 205/215 lbs, depending on where I'm at in my riding season. I'm lean and there's little room to conceal OWB. I'd have to put it so high, it'd be in my armpit. That'd defeat the whole point. LOL.

When I get the holster for the Shield, the footprint of that holster will be smaller compared to the one for my full-size gun. Not sure how and if that'll affect this issue.

CZ 75 PCR. Throw a jacket on and it is never seen.

Even with a long shirt it can be hidden decently. This is to show its size a little better.

The Raven worn IWB seems to work pretty well for me. It covers most of the weapon, so not much skin contact. I do believe they offer some sort of clips to make it tuckable under a shirt. The only issue is waiting 3 months to get it, although I hear they're supposedly getting better.

My point is it's not like I'm wearing anything out of the ordinary

A fleece and suite coat are totally different than OWB carry with shorts and a t-shirt like us folks down in the south, winter wise I could carry my full size 1911 with a high riding OWB with my jacket/fleece all day long, throw on a t-shirt and it's a different story and that's my top covering 75-80% of the year. I don't have any issues with sweat on my cow IWB and I sweat a lot, I do clean and oil my gun more often during the hotter months.
