Heater Hose Sizes?

My heater core is leaking and right now I just don't want to deal with it. Does anyone know the size of heater core connections that come off the thermostat housing so i can i just buy a small hose to temporally bypass the heater core?



also side question, I thought the system was supposed to not send coolant to the heater core unless the heat was on, is that wrong? cuz it stopped leaking after we stopped using the heat but the all of a sudden today started leaking a lot.

Does one have take the entire dash apart to get to the heater core?
I would imagine those hoses are 1/4 or 1/2 inch at most.

I ended up using a 1" barb ended elbow from lowes and using that at the end at the firewall instead of at the thermostat housing. It was easier since there are quick releases at the fire wall and you can remove the hoses from those with lots of room for your hands/tools.
