Hello from NJ, USA - ordered a '13 LTZ with manual trans and 1.4L T

Hi Folks,

I ordered a new Sonic LTZ sedan with the 6 speed manual transmission and 1.4L turbo engine a few days ago. 6-8 weeks to wait now. I previously only owned turbo Saabs, and my last one died at 280K miles. When looking for a replacement I was very impressed with the Sonic's ride and handling and the fact that it can be had with a turbo. Looking forward to sharing experiences and wrenching details, as I do all my own work.

Hi Harry, welcome to SOF! I too have an LTZ turbo with manual.

I don't want you to think I'm getting too deep into your personal business, but why did you choose to order your car rather than try to find one at another dealership? I ask because personally I don't have the patience to wait for a car to be built and shipped, and dealers are generally less inclined to discount a special order vehicle.

I was pretty flexible on the color, but I HAD to have an LTZ turbo hatch with manual transmission and sunroof. I would have even bought an Orange one, but as it turned out, I found one in Cyber Gray with the black/brick interior combo. I had seen the brick interior in photos, and hated it, but I changed my mind when I actually sat in it. It adds interesting contrast to an otherwise dark and dull cabin. Had to drive 80 miles each way to the dealership, but I got what I wanted, when I wanted it, and got a great price too because it was inventory and not a special order.

I want a white with brick interior, LTZ sedan with turbo. Not a one on the East Coast. Anyway, I really like to order a car because then it is EXACTLY what I want, no hamfisted 18 year old has taken it for a test drive, and I intend to drive it for a long time. Waiting a month or two for a car I'll drive for another 120 or more is not a big deal for me. And I got a great discount with 1.99% financing as well.

Oh, and I am from the open space area below Morristown and above Somerville in NJ. It's where the highway numbers equal the prevailing speed (I-78, I-80)

Not going to ask the question JCHAG asked, but will say I have experienced the roller coaster of ordering and have decided I will not do that again. And I will stand by that promise until the next time I decide to order.

Once you have your Sonic, please post your thoughts on the ordering process.

Thanks for humoring my noseyness, I see how that body/trim/powertrain/color combo would definitely be a special order, and I totally understand your desire for a virgin vehicle. When I was living in NJ I purchased a car from Gearhart Chevrolet in Denville. It was close to my workplace in Parsippany. You live in a beautiful part of the state. It gets a bad rap, but mostly from people who have never seen the beauty that is central/western/northern New Jersey.
