And now a check engine light is on. I did 15 minutes of highway driving this morning. About 7 minutes in, at 77mph, the engine can't handle the slight grade on cruise control. The RPMs climb, but slow to accelerate. Then hesitation whenever pushing the gas pedal. It's like the engine can't decide which gear it wants to go to. When I exit the highway 8 minutes later the ticking is quite loud and still considerable hesitation up to 40mph. I get to my destination 5 minutes later, park the car, and can smell burning rubber. I check under the hood, no noticeable reason.
On the route home the ticking is still audible from inside the car and then the CEL goes on. The code is P0324 and 0325 knock sensor related basically. I have changed out the PCV a week ago to try and fix the ticking, but no joy. Was going to change out the spark plugs and coil pack next. Running premium gas right now, but I don't have high hopes. Everything is stock, I didn't know about tuning until I got onto this forum, lol.
We purchased the car in August with 64k miles. It still is under the 3k miles, 3 month extended warranty. Doesn't sound like replacing the knock sensor is under warranty, but I'm leaning towards lifters. This issue has been very intermittent since a week or two after we purchased, but now is happening more frequently.
Called the dealership and have an appointment on Monday. We'll see if the tech thinks it warrants an engine tear-down to figure it out more.
