Ok so I have 8k hids for both headlights and foglights. My issue it that when I start my car the lights don't always turn on automatically. I have to turn the dial multiple times till they work. Most of the time they work fine but recently I have noticed I have to turn them on and off a lot more. I'm not talking 1 or 2 times. I'm talking 10-15 times. Sometimes one light will work and i have to do to get the other to work. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the car wiring or the hid ballasts. The headlight hids are only about a yr old and I just started getting this issue the past month. The fog lights are any 3 mons old. They are $35 slim hids off ebay. Nothing fancy so I can replace without hesitation. What are your thoughts?

You need to look into getting one of these

DRL Relay Harness - Used on vehicles that decreases voltage below 10V or reverses polarity for DRLs. Also can be used on older vehicles to provide better current to the HID conversion kit. This harness is NOT a standard relay harness. Standard relays fail to function properly at voltages under 10V, while the relays used in this harness can be triggered by voltages as low as 3V.

I have 8k in my lows and 3k in my fogs and with this harness everything is just fine(fogs don't need a harness nor should be affected)

Im with Black Turbo LTZ, first thing that came to mind was get a relay harness on it. It doesnt appear anyone has figured out how to truly kill the DRLs on our Sonic's yet, so the best bet is to run any HIDs at full power (via a relay harness).

Just make sure you get a relay harness that can indeed supply full power to the ballasts, it is critical they receive a full +12V otherwise you will have longevity issues.

HID fogs = dumbest idea ever.

Good (and legal) fog lamps may produce white or Selective Yellow light—it is the beam pattern, not the light colour, that defines a fog lamp—and most of them use tungsten-halogen bulbs though there are some legitimate (and a lot of illegitimate) LED fog lamps beginning to appear. Xenon or HID bulbs are inherently unsuitable for use in fog lamps, and blue or other-colored lights are also the wrong choice.

But what if I just bought fog lights for the look, not for actual driving if foggy conditions? Like everybody else in the world. Gotta have HID's that match.

I actually had some tinted bulbs way back when in my Cobalt that let my fogs match the color of my main HID kit perfectly without being blinding, but they didn't last very long. Then I lost a complete fog light to hitting a raccoon or something crossing the street, so it became a moot point.
