High Speed Braking sway! AND my day today!

So today I went on a nice drive through the mountains and such. Up and down roads winding all around. The whole time driving is next to a river and eventually you end up at a creek
Its a beautiful drive. Not only that, bit you can do 80mph the whole time and not worry too much about the fuzz. To accompany on this drive was my buddy and his 2011 Roush Mustang. Bolt ons, and tuned. He is fast, so fast that it made me depressed that my Sonic isn't a 500hp beast. Then I realized I could take the corners better

ANYWAYS, I noticed when I slow down from 70mph and above, the front of my car goes all over this place! It just doesn't feel safe! Along with that, the brakes could definatley use some work too.. Anyone else notice this?

P.S. My buddie's mustang is the one in my avatar.
Also, I ordered my ZZP downpipe, midpipe, and rear cat delete pipe today. Very excited.

Get Brembo brakes. That will solve your braking issue. Pedder's coil overs and ddm's rear brace should solve your suspension issues. What are your concerns with the 1.4t though seeing that this is in the "1.4t engine discussion" section. Or was that you talking about how you wished your 1.4 eco box had 500 HP to hang with a Roush.

Get Brembo brakes. That will solve your braking issue. Pedder's coil overs and ddm's rear brace should solve your suspension issues. Yes I know, I'm too cheap for the brembos though unfortunately. And the rear brace is on my list for sure. AND yes that was my thinking about the engine. If the sonic was pushin 350whp, you think it could hang with a 500whp roush??

Don't matter if he's got 500whp if you beat him in the curves, whiles he's having to brake not to crash you're steady losing him . But then of course the straight aways the bastard lol. When I was in the Smokey mountain national park, I was flying around those curves leaving everyone in my dust, until I had to brake for the people in front.

I think the 1.4 is still trying to figure out 250hp much less 350hp. There are only a couple of cars in here that have the clutch to handle 250.

Not on a race track because race tracks have straight aways. on a road yes if you stick to the back curvy roads. That's the thing I love about the Sonic, even stock you can whip it around curves without a problem.

Driver skill is a big advantage as well, HP, brakes and suspension make up quick for a lack of master driving skills.

Coilovers or atleast springs will help stability substantially. As should the DDM rear brace.
With just Eibach springs my car is pretty stable braking from speed, although braking above triple digits it starts to feel sketchy. I'm positive coilovers could be setup for even more stability.

The stock brakes are solid performers up until they go thru a few repetitive hard stops. JohnT's written some thorough posts about the Sonics brakes based on some autocross racing. From what I've gotten out of his post is good brake fluid and pads are a must to fight brake fade when pushing the car, and upgraded rotors are recommended.

I fly around curves all the time, I can't imagine a big boat of a car even with suspension work keeping right up. Sure suspension work does help a muscle car but even then they're never really good handling cars, they just got better handling over stock.

When I was taking the corners we were doing about 65mph and I did get a little slide action going on. There was a bit of dirt over parts of the road. And if I put 15k into a car, it better be kickin some ass. Espicially a slightly modded roush....

It was a fun drive indeed. I kept it in 5th gear most of the time doing 60 around the curvy parts. I filled up with E85 before we heades out and that stuff just drains so damn quick hahaha! Ill upgrade brakes when either A. Its too late and I crash or B. I almost crash

Exactly what I was thinkin hahah! Can anyone imagine pullin up to a 5.0 stang in your sonic at a light and just leavin him in the dust with a case of drop jaw?!

I measured my front discs at 10.5". The Brembo front disc upgrade is damn nice at 13" and $3000, but ZZP has a 12" front disc upgrade for a much more reasonable $400 and still very nice.

Firmer springs should do wonders for high speed braking. They do for me.
