I'm a 78 yo man who just bought his first Sonic. I've been a PT Cruiser owner (3) since 2002 and really enjoyed driving them. I couldn't find a replacement for my 2010 that was totaled in a rear ender. Everyone I found was in the 75,000 to 105,000 range with the original timing belt and water pump which means they're fixing to leave you stranded on the side of the road PDQ. It costs between $1200-$1500 to fix. As my wife and I were checking out new cars, I spotted my red Sonic coming out of the detail shop. It was love at first sight. The original owner was there buying a new SUV and told me it was trouble free and really great on gas. We paid $8500 and are really happy with it. She had lost the owners manual so I'm still learning things as I drive. (The dealer ordered a new one)
The only problem I've had is the engine light keeps coming on. I take it back, they check it, and 100 miles later it's on again. Going to post this over on the Tech Forum to see if anyone can help.
It has the 1.8 and a auto/manual tranny (Why the dual is something I've never heard of) Guess the manual is in case of snow/ice/etc. I believe the PT Cruiser was faster up to 70 but then the Sonic takes over. Had the 2010 up to 118 (radar/ex Cop) but this one has lots of pedal left at 100. I don't intend to find out how fast it will go as I'm a little old to end up blowing a engine.
I'll keep you all informed as to how the Sonic runs.Bob
