I wanna love this Sonic

I am in the process of getting my first Sonic Hatch RS (2014) I don't see many of them around with the trim I got. The car has 86K and can you guys tell me what I should tell my mechanic to check closely as I figure there might be some common issues with certain years. I happened to see something about leaking water pumps on one of my VIN checks. This forum is super informative and I am glad I found !!

Check for coolant leaks, specifically the plastic thermostat housing, coolant outlet, and expansion tank. Also check the PCV system, especially the check valve in the intake manifold, and the diaphragm in the valve cover.

I can only vouch for a 6 speed manual 1.4L, 2012 LT hatch bought new. 130,000 miles. Excellent and fun car. Only problems were front sway bar links. OEM are plastic. Replaced with Bosch steel links at 60k. But my Sonic is also kind of rare. No steering wheel controls. No cruise control or Bluetooth. Definitely go by efaily's recommendations. Can be great, long lasting car if taken care of.

TBH are you capable or want to learn to work on your own sonic? The sonic is a great car to learn. Easily accessible and parts or fairly cheap. Buy some tools and Youtube tutorials will be your best friend.

with that, sake your mechanic to pressure test the coolant system. Coolant related issues seem to be the most cumbersome and something to stay ahead of.
