Key fobs

I just bought a 2013 Sonic RS. It came with one key and no FOBs??

I'm not sure it even had fobs, But I bet it did. How can I find out what it is suppose to have, and where is best place to get what I need.

Maybe try a dealer parts counter. They would be able to look up the info you desire.

I paid about $40 each for ILCO brand Blank Key Fob for my 2016. Other brands are cheaper. You have to buy exact same style and confirm by looking at the FCC Number molded into the case. Took to a real locksmith and they cut it for $35. Programming was very simple, only took 2 minutes for me to do all 3 keys I had made. Instructions may come with the FOB r can be found searching here or Google. I don't recall exactly, but it is VERY easy to do your self.

The pricing on these things is all over the place. A lot of places (e.g. ACE hardware) won't let you bring your own fob in and charge exorbitantly for theirs. They have gone up substantially though. My dealer's price on OEM was $35 per fob in 2016, $50 in 2018 and $80 now. Programming and cutting fee has remained around the $40 mark, though if the programming fails via the standard method of putting the new fob in the lock after the old one, or you can't reprogram because you've lost the old key, then you're in the service bay and things quickly go south as I guess they have to reprogram via OBD in that situation.

I recently bought a '14 RS hatch for my son that only came with one fob/key. I order a fob/blank key on eBay for $30 and had the key cut by a locksmith for $32. Programming was simple based on the procedure in the manual.
