I'm getting excited about this car a bit more! I was hoping the turbo could be had for under $18k, and it looks like Chevy is gonna nail the sweet spot with the LTZ hatch priced at $17,430.

I sent an email to Trifecta performance, the guys who have an ECU tune available for the Cruze 1.4T that squeezes out around 150hp/190tq, asking if they are planning to have a tune available for the Sonic. His reply:

My plan is to have a tune for the 2012 Sonic LTZ on day 1. To my knowledge it is using the same powertrain as the Cruze. I think our tune on the Sonic will make it a snappy little car.

The tune for the SOnic is going to be the same as the Cruze.

Somewhere around 180hp/200ft lbs of torque.

I don't want a 10sec fast/furious car, just something fun. CAI/CBE/tune will be all I'd go after. And maybe a downpipe. Ok maybe the whole TBE. Frickin slippery slope

if the car does weigh 2800 pounds. getting it around the 200hp mark should get it into the high 14's low 15's depending on gear ratio's and 60 foot times. my cobalt with me in it weight about 3100 pounds and my best time was 14.2 when i had only 220hp. every car is different, but this should be a fun little car with a little bit more boost added and the engine maps changed from fuel save mode to fun mode lol.

As long as it'll crack 60 in around 7 seconds I'll be pretty happy.

My guess is that's almost exactly what the 6 speed will do stock. Car & Driver just did a review on the Cruze Eco, which is a light weight (3018 lb) Cruze turbo with a 6 speed and low resistance tires. It did 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and 1/4 mile in 16.1. The Sonic should be 200 lbs lighter and have slightly stickier tires. I would guess that should put it down in the 7.1 - 7.3 range for 0-60, and 15.4 - 15.6 in the 1/4 mile. Not bad when your competition averages about 1.5 seconds slower.

this guy is a troll, i'm allready sick of him. people have been modding cars since they were invented, how else does technolgy advance? now you have companys like brembo and borla making FACTORY parts for cars. i have a srt-4 acr edtion that is spec'd out from mopar from the factory to be a legit scca race car. if you don't like it and want to keep your car stock, thats fine nothing wrong with that. but please stop trolling the boards and making stupid comments to those who are into the car modding scene.
