Leather Automatic shift cover -or- how do I remove that silver plastic thing?

So I bought a new 2015 Sonic LT Automatic and the little silver/gray plastic cover on the back/top side of the automatic selector knob was scratched on top (likely happened when sales guys pulled the seat belt)

Anyway, so I was thinking I want to remove that little gray/silvery plastic thing and paint it, or replace it with a new one etc...

does anyone know how to remove it?

Also, I've been wondering if anyone makes a leather cover for the automatic selector (like wheelskins). I found similar for Chevy Cruze on eBay...

Here is a video I found which shows you how to replace the silver knob. The process includes removal of the plastic cover as well.

I think in the other thread the guy just pulled or pried the top plastic cover off the shift knob...if that is the piece you mean.

I just ordered a leather cover ..says it's for a cruze..will let everyone know how it is.
