Hi anybody!
I’d like to share a few pictures and informations with you about some installations on my (i.e. my wife’s ) Aveo, we did in the past days/weeks.
A.)
As many else i also was wondring about how the “premium” 6-speaker-sound in our Aveo could be upgraded a little bit more. We didn’t want a boom car and the CD, AUX and USB device qualities weren’t that bad in our opinion. The most angrily was that even at full radio volume we could hardly hear the traffic news when sunroof was opened and speed was at 70mls or higher.
B.)
The other intention was how and where to install the navi of the wife’s former car.
C.)
The most unimportant intention: In opposition to most US fans the European more like the “bling-bling” trim than to blackout or like some say cleaning chrome trims . And so we decided to add some tiny mods to our “shopping bag / fire truck” .
So here’s the story:
Cause the necessary electric jobs with pts. A) and B) are not my favourite occupations i took my car to a chummy dealer’s garage . They connected and run the required wires for me .
To A.) The AMP:
We decided in adding a 4-channel amp (installed in the spare tyre cavity) and keep the stock speakers. After reading lots of threads ‘bout stock speaker systems, i was all but certain, that the stock amplification in most cases is the weak point. We only wanted a slightly power-up, so we decided on the 4x40 W/rms
AXTON A4050x
Procedures (see pictures below):
- Cutting speaker wires very short after HU,
- inserting a 4 channel high-low adapter (Mosconi HLA-4),
- running RCA cables to trunk,
- running speaker cables from trunk back to HU and connecting to the stock cables,
- adapting remote wire at the fuse box (driver’s side),
- adapting power cable (12v) at battery and sluicing through firewall to driver’s side,
-
I used an oversized power cable to have the option for adding a self-powered sub later (if this would have been necessary). The 12V cable on the driver’s side is separated from the signal leading lines on the passenger’s side, to avoid humming or buzzing. That’s a further reason why I decided in using a hi-/lo adapter instead of connecting speaker cables to the also existing high-level inputs of the Axton amp.
All the wires in the spare tyre cavity are a little bit longer as required, for a later retrofit when eventually putting a spare tire in that area .
So, if asking what’s the difference to the situation before, I must say – GREAT  !!! The stock speakers aren’t that bad and they are now living a new life. Even the lower frequencies are smooth and present. I set the amp gain for the front speakers at about 60% and for the rears at about 80 % (to balance the stock differences). Above volume set to 50 (bass level at 6) the hatch is vibrating and the inside mirror gives you a distorted rear view. No, that are not infra or murdering low basses, but they are definitely appreciable .
Costs: Amp 95€ , wiring/hi-lo adapter/labour at the garage 240€

To B. the NAVI:
My wife in her former car had the Navi "TomTomGo 720TMC" (traffic message channel ) with an active bracket that included a clip-holder for the TMC-antenna jack. It looks like this :
For retrofit to the Aveo we ordered the special ProClip (Brodit #854680 for Aveo/Sonic center vent grill). LOOK HERE (for mounting pictures scroll the website down)
Mounting the Brodit active carrier (274006 for TomTom 720T) technically:
LOOK HERE
The wires for 12V and the TMC-antenna cable has been installed during the amp preparations. The antenna (it’s a simple dipole cable with an integrated tuner) is fixed and hidden under the trim.
And so it looks after installed in our Aveo/Sonic :
Costs: ProClip for vent grill mount 22€, other items owned before

To C. the “Bling-Bling”:
We’d like to have your US SONIC LTZ emblem, cause we are not so happy with the German name AVEO. So it was a great pleasure, that board-member AndrewGS sent us this special emblem – Thanks again Andrew for your efforts  !!
The other item was the chrome hatch-handle cover. But have a look yourself:
Costs: emblem "Sonic LTZ" from AndrewGS = secret , hatch "chrome" handle 32€
Thanks for your patience and keep on cruising…
