Lowered Wheel Fitment Question

So I've come to the conclusion that I'd prefer to buy 5x100 wheels and run adapters on the lady's sonic. We found a set of wheels that we'd like but I'm not entirely sure how well they will fit. Specs on the wheels are 18x8.5 et42 and then if we were to add 20mm for the adapters overall specs would be 18x8.5 et22.

I know not everyone agrees with adapters and it might be hard to run ideal sets of wheels, but we'd like to change it up every so often and constantly getting redrills just isn't practical.

The car is on BC type R coilovers and is considerably low.

anyone run similar specs?

Ouch. I've got some bad news for you. Those wheels aren't going to fit inside the arches. Not unless you hellaflush-stretch the rubber, which I don't recommend, and probably not even then.

Most of the guys around here run flush with 8" wide wheels with 35 offsets; 30 is even doable in some cases. From the pictures, it looks like you'd cut a tire on the arch if you poked even a little bit.

You'll need to either find a thinner spacer, a similar wheel with a larger initial offset (unlikely), or special order the wheels you want with our super-special chevy-tastic 5x105 bolt pattern.

If you did manage to get those rims custom drilled, that 42 offset combined with the 8.5" width will be pushing the rubber preeeeetty close to the suspension. Definitely double and triple check your clearance if you decide to go with the custom-order route, as I'm a bit concerned you might run into trouble.

Those are gorgeous rims, btw. Do they come in matched sets, so you can get the spokes on one side of the car facing the same direction as the spokes on the other?

Those are gorgeous rims, btw. Do they come in matched sets, so you can get the spokes on one side of the car facing the same direction as the spokes on the other?

They are called 3SDM .06's. I'm sure I could even get them redrilled if I sent 3SDM a few emails. As far as the wheels you posted, I'm familiar with all of those companies. I drive VW's, I had a bagged mk6 Jetta and I recently replaced it with an R32. The sonic is my girlfriends. HRE and CCW's are definitely out of our price range. I really like the tmbs though. I almost got a set for my car.

As far as adapters, I wanted to try and run them because it would be cheaper and easier for us to sell the wheels. 5x100 is a super common pattern and almost every company makes a 5x100 wheel.

I do get what you're saying though and I don't wanna compromise drivability or have something that doesn't fit to save a few bucks. Maybe we will just have to get redrilled wheels.

Either they were trying to save money by using parts from their other cars (Vauxhall, Opel, Holden), or they wanted to make sure we didn't modify the cars from stock by giving us the most hellish bolt pattern they could find.

I'm pretty sure it's the second option, since there are Sonics (T300 Aveos) in Indonesia and Thailand that have the 4x100 bolt pattern, instead of the 5x105.
