Lowerwd sonic problems

Hello everybody! Sorry about the misspelled thread, I'm not sure how to correct it.
I recently had a shop lower my 2012 sonic with lowering springs. Unfortunately when I turn around low speeds I hear a bwoing noise. It sounds as though the spring is being sprung. I took it back to the shop that installed the springs and they said the noise is due to my strut mounts going out. Now the car only has 55000 miles on it, has anyone else ever had this problem? If so was the strut mount the actual problem? I have the sneaking suspicion the shop installed the springs incorrectly and are trying to get me to buy more stuff. thanks again!

I put springs on mine, self installed. I believe there's no adjustment for the upper portion... Just a big bolt you undo and two bolts on the lower suspension and the whole strut assembly comes out.

How the springs sit in the strut assembly is important, there's a "notch" in the lower portion that the spring fits in to, and I think something for the top portion.... It's been so long ago

I'd go one week, to see if that spring settles in place....If not I'd take it back.

^He's right as far as how it all goes together.

The bwoing sound when you turn your wheel is typically associated with coil bind. If your upper mount is functioning correctly you shouldn't really be getting any binding.

I attached a pic from the GM catalog. Part 8 is your upper mount. The spring should seat in the bottom and then the top is compressed against the chassis of the car. The upper mount is essentially a big bearing that can rotate so the spring is never being twisted. As I recall, part 10 captures the whole assembly.

I have seen some people say their upper mount came apart during disassembly, so I suppose there's the remote chance that it came apart and was not reassembled correctly, but it's a pretty basic part. I hesitate to blame the shop immediately in situations like this... I'd drive it a bit more and see if the problem gets better or worse.

Thanks for getting back to me! I was driving last night and the car started pulling pretty hard to the left. I went back the shop today and they are currently taking a look at it. We will see what happens. the guys at the shop were pretty cool, they let me know that they were going to look at it free of charge. So we will see what happens.

good deal... the strut is held with two bolts at the bottom so there's no real camber adjustment... I did put camber bolts in mine to bring them back to a more vertical alignment, but it was a minor thing.

They fixed it for free. Manager told me that it is uncommon for the strut mounts to go out that early, and a mistake may have been made during install. I'm glad they fixed the issue, will definitely go back to them in the future.
