Yesterday afternoon, on a wet, cool, rainy day, I started my car, hit my seat heat button, turned on my rear window defrost, and cranked on my fan defrost with the heat cranked all the way to hot. I got a couple of miles before I realized that my seat was not really even warm, and my blower was blowing intermittent cold/slightly warm air. Later, though, it all seemed fine. Then not working right again. Oh yeah, at one point my rear window defroster turned itself off. Nothing else, though.
Same again today. Opened the hood to see what I could see. On top of an apparent coolant leak, I found this:

Had to Google it to find out what it is. It's a melted Battery Current Sensor. No idea yet if it's what's causing all this heat drama.
Anyone else ever seen this? This damn car is becoming the bane of my existence.
EDIT/UPDATE: Took it to the dealership yesterday. Found out I needed a new water pump (fortunately still under warranty - yay). BUT...they also said that the battery has been leaking acid (I noticed indications of that when I looked at it the other day) and that's what melted the current sensor.
I forgot to mention that NO WARNING LIGHT OF ANY KIND EVER CAME ON. To me this indicates a larger problem.
rant/ THIS CAR IS BARELY 4 YEARS OLD, and I've already had more major problems with it than any beater car I've ever owned. Had to install a new transmission before I even had it for a year. The HVAC issue I posted about a few years back is still a problem (partly my fault, because it's such a pain to get to the dealership through Metro Atlanta traffic in extreme summer heat without A/C from the part of town I'm in whenever it happens. And they said they were unable to replicate the problem...yet every hot summer day it happens to me without any effort on my part.) And now a leaky battery and failed water pump. /rant
