Momentary Rough Idle on Start-Up

Happens most every time, only lasts 5 seconds, does not come up again until the next overnight start. Runs fine thought the rest of the day.

Car sits out every night, 1.8L about 1500 miles on it now.

Not overly concerned, just asking if “Normal” ?????

I've got a 1.8 also and when I start it after sitting over night it rough idles for about 30-45 seconds then slows down and evens out, worse on hotter days when I am not up at 5 AM. Has done this since the day I took it home.

Mine does the same till the engine is at normal temp. RPMs drop below 1K and its good to go.

Completely normal, it happens to mine even if it sits for a few hours sometimes.

My turbo (bone stock) idles like dump when it is first started up many mornings. I really don't care much for it, doesn't seem to be feeling like a new car should. Some mornings it's so rough I stare at the spot for the check engine light waiting for it to start flashing, indicating a misfire. Never does of course. Once warmed up the idle quality is generally quite good.

Perhaps since this seems common there is a valid reason the engineers made these things do this... Emissions probably.

My 1.4 is the same way most mornings.

This is common nowadays, it's to get the engine up to temp and reduce emissions. My Mazda3 did the same thing. Sounded like a diesel with the direct injection

Mine does it and I love the sound of my ZZP when it backfires and spits.
