You may remember me from June and July I had a LOT of issues with my 2012 Sonic Sedan with 31,000 miles on it. I loved that car something fierce!! I will make a long story short for those who didn't see the other posts ... End of June car overheated, was thought to have a cracked head, but was told it was just the thermostat, a week later and 1,000 from home car was leaking antifreeze again, AC was not working again, and you could tell it was just not right.... once back home I e mailed chevrolets and was given a "specialist " this guy was kinda a joke since he doesn't even work for Chevy but instead at a call center in Texas, but whatever. Over the next 40 days my car spent 34 days in the service department at the dealership with the following problems: ( I added up days in the shop in 22 months I had it and it was a total of 61 days! but they still said it was not a LEMON!)
Cracked Head
AC compressor didn't work
Exhaust pipe needed replaced
Sway bar links were replaced for the third time in 22 months!
sway bar itself was replaced
After I picked up my Sonic and the mechanics assured me the car was "mechanically sound" I waited for the call from Chevy...And then the my Specialtist called with his offer.... HA! he would like to offer to extend my bumper to bumper warranty for another 30,000 miles. Ummmm NO! He went on to lie to me and say after talking to my dealership they were worried about getting me financed for another loan so he couldn't offer trade assistance... ( LIE and they got me at 4.9% :banana.
Thankfully my finance guy went to bat for me and gave this guy a wake up call.... after 2 days of back and forth on the phone they were now willing to give me $1700 in trade assistance to get me into a new 2013 Chevy Malibu ( My dealership "ate" opcorn: about $2000 from my Sonic so I was not upside down in the new loan because they ROCK and are amazing! Jeff Henry Chevrolet, Plattsmouth, Ne ) They also had to agree to disclose everything that has ever gone wrong with my car to anyone who buys it and to NOT take it to auction in order for for me to get the trade assistance... (pretty messed up if you ask me but no one did...)
I just want to say this before I go... I learned a lot here and I thank you all for your posts.... IF you ever have to deal with a specialist from Chevy don't take their first offer, stand your ground, ask a ton of questions or you will get walked all over. In the end this all worked out the way I was hoping but I believe it's because I have never been one to go away "quietly" I ask questions and voice my opinion and don't usually care who gets upset along the way...
Good luck with all your Sonic's ( I miss mine already and we even named our 7 year old daughters softball team the Sonics!)
