Good day ladies and gents. My wife and I are owners of a new 2014 LTZ hatch in Ashen gray metallic with black/brick leather and the 1.4L Turbo! We cant wait to get it. Delivery is predicted to be around middle of May!...Grrrrrr. No one had any with the exact options we wanted in all of Canada so we factory ordered it via a local dealer after running numbers with 3 other dealerships and haggling up from the dealer invoice on the car cost canada website. All said out the door inc. taxes/freight was $23007.51 + whatever 3M will cost me.
I'm totally stoked here and its like waiting for Christmas all over again. haha. A little about my automotive background. This is my very first domestic! Yep, thats right. I have always been a Honda/Toyota guy, built/tuned numerous Turbo civics in my day and then got in to higher end cars. Eventually I grew up and ended up with one badass (can I say that here?) looking Toyota Tacoma truck and 4Runner as we're far north and there are numerous places to explore where a car cant go.
Recently the 4Runner hit its 16th year on the road and although its in great running condition without any problems it is a gas guzzler so we decided to buy a car to boot around with to offset the cost of fuel. We're still keeping the Tacoma. On average we're spending $500 a month to fuel both. What ya expect from two lifted trucks with 33's that get sub 240mi/tank or around 15mpg!
At the same time we decided to get a more sensible car as a daily commuter we also decided that we dont want to grow up just yet or at least grow up slower. Haha. So the wife and I were also looking at sports cars. We dont have kids nor do we plan to. As we were browsing the different makes and models I came across this beautiful car that popped up in an ad. It spoke to me immediately...Can anyone guess what it is?...If you guessed the new Corvette Stingray you're absolutely right!
So instead of immediately jumping head first in to a 60K+ investment we looked to play it smart and purchase only the Sonic to test Chevrolet's reliability and reputation. This will also give me some time to save up a more hefty down payment or even just buy it cash. Bottom line is that if the Sonic turns out to be reliable over the next two years, the Stingray will make its way on to my lot!
Anyway, we did research and test drive numerous other compact cars in the same class as the Sonic and it just so happens that the Sonic was the only one with the right price tag, the right options and the right EPA ratings from Fuelly! Nothing else had met every aspect of the criteria list we had.
So here we are, waiting for six weeks till its delivered. And time is going slooooowwwwwwww. Been looking through the brochure and at pics/vids online to get my fix, haha. I'm definitely looking forward to the new car smell and the feel of leather again. Been a while since I had those two at the same time. So hopefully its as reliable in the long run as any import we've had. This is my only fear. It has to last ten years with basic maintenance. In ten years I'll call the scrap yard to pick it up or if its still in great shape I'll give it away to a friends kid or something.
For now my plans for the car are...Nothing at all! No Trifecta, no exhaust. I would like to maybe get a louder BOV so I can hear the whoosh again after all these years Thats about it. I may actually engineer an aluminum belly pan for the underside to trap as little air as possible. This is going to be our 40MPG+ car. Well hope to be showing it off to you guys soon. I'm definitely going to be on this forum from now till the car dies in 10 years or pisses me off enough that I sell it and go back to imports...Lets hope that never happens.
Cheers guys!
