No lift shift question

So when I got my tune I was told tbat the No Lift Shift (if done right) will backfire.... well I just drag raced 10 time at the drag strip with NLS and not once.did it back fire and I had my foot to the floor on the gas never let up.


Sooooo question is... im guessing its working.but I don't have a backfire happening? Kinda confused..

Yep, won't always backfire. Mine never has.

Is it a real no lift shift? My Evo has this and the car will kill all power, and drop RPMs a pre-determined amount and hold it there (almost like a soft-touch rev limit) until the next gear is engaged. The only time I tried it in my Sonic, the RPMs shot up to the moon, like it would in a typical manual shift car if you shifted with your accel. flat on the floor.
Just seemed abusive to me.

I'm scared to do it. I haven't been to the track so don't see a need to go that hard on the streets.

It keeps boost spooled up and adjust spark and fueling to control over rev.

It must be done FAST and the throttle must be to the floor.
When I do it the rpms only go up slightly and it feels really smooth.

I recently let a friend try it and everytime he did it the revs would jump way up and it felt kinda jerky. He said he wasn't putting the gas all the way down (habit) so that may have affected it or he was too slow.

ill just put it this way, it kept my boost up for sure,...

also i did it so quick that i thought "how int he hell did i not grind gears right there" lol...

it does help it sheds almost half a second off 1/4 mile

I have never had my car backfire, and I NLS almost everyday. I've also had NLS since it was first turned on.

Now that I have a BoV, its VERY noticeable that there is no blow off noise between shifts.
