Off to the Dealer

Well after replacing both wheel bearings on the right side of my car I am off to the dealer.
Had hoped that the buzzing noise was just my wheel bearings.
Rear was bad and was an easy change. Front took a minute and although was starting to go bad it was not the real source of my noise.
Transmission has a buzzing whirling noise that increases with speed.
It is on the right front side and is most apparent above 25 mph.
Going to the dealer Monday after work as I am sure this is a tranny issue internally. I have the 6 speed manual. 42k on the clock.

buzz...a low moanish...in every gear?

Rotated the tires? Noise follows rotation?

FWD, could be a CV joint issue too...

When I turn axle shaft I can feel a grinding sort of thing. I am thinking output shaft bearing most likely.
Wheels have been rotated every 7500.
Fresh bearings and exactly the same noise.
Put on hoist and spun it up slightly and can hear noise from tranny right side.

I am having similar issues. Mainly when I turn left. There is a grinding/crunching noise from the front end. I had my dealer look at it, they could only get it to replicate symptoms once. They put it on the rack and could not find anything externally that looked out of place. They said I would need to drive it until it gets worse and bring it back in.

My noise is present all of the time when in motion. Same noise even while coasting in neutral. Is most definitely coming from the trans.
When sitting still no noise.
Also while tire was off I turned the haft shaft by hand. It has a kind of grinding
feel to it.
Note this was outside of the hub at the time as well. I had just replaced the wheel bearing at same time.
Same noise after bearing and makes no difference turning right or left while in motion. Noise is always present while moving.
Dealer today..... will let you know how goes.

So... trans is being replaced. Output shaft bearing has become worn or loose inside on the case.
Trans is on Back order for a couple days. Will be driving my loaner for a while. I would suggest anyone with this same type of bearing noise coming from the trans seek out your dealer and get this fixed asap.
It Is covered under 5/100k power train.
When I know more I let you know.

Zippy, did you notice the noise more in the winter/cold months over the warm summer months? I think i'm having the same issues and have been for a while. Other than the noise, I've noticed no other issues.

No just a whirling kind of noise. It has gotten worse over the last couple of weeks.
According to the dealer the bearing is or has failed. Still don't know all of the details.
I find it strange though not rebuild, just replace.
And the cold or warmer made no difference.

It was almost 50 here the other day and like 12 degrees a couple days before in the morning. It made the same noise.

It sounds very much like a bad wheel bearing sort of buzzing. Maybe more metallic.

Update:
Trans is still on Back order. Dealer tells me none are available currently.

Has been two weeks since they ordered .

Makes me think this is a common problem and the replacement trans is not available right now.

Hopefully soon this will get fixed.

They have me driving a '14 Impala LTZ. Is ok but it is a pig. Not the new design. It is a '14 Limited edition.

Also had to put a brand new tire on it as one had 6 plugs and was leaking air bad. They paid for it though.

I am so ready to have my Sonic back.

Just wondering as to why a replacement trans should take so long to get? Was it the same as the ones being replaced?

Are they replacing these bad trans with a newer upgraded trans or one of the same type?

I wonder if some sort of engineering change has happened.

Dealer tells me none available either.

Just seems odd to me.

On a better note I bought a new RS Camaro today.

Great discounts on remaining 2014 models.

Really miss my Sonic though.
