P0599/P0597 Codes and Fan always on?

My ultragauge is telling my I have a p0599 and pending codes of p0599 and p0597. My fan is always running also. I googled the codes and it said its something with the thermostat control board. Anyone ever get this? And is it okay to drive until I can take it to get looked at? I'm assuming it will be fine, it's just running a few degrees colder because of the fan always being on when the engine is running.

Other info: 60k miles, 2012 1.8 ls.

The tstat has an electronically controlled heater in it I believe. It might have failed. The whole part isn't too pricey. If the whole tstat/housing needs to be replaced, I'll just do it. Seems like an easy job. Just wanna make sure it's that before I buy one.

the part costs less than the labor charge to TELL you what's wrong I'd bet

there's a plug there.. this is for the 1.4T so I'm not sure the 1.8 is different... Might check that plug, take part off, is anything broken...dirty... also check any coolant related fuses......

One idea, unplug battery positive for 15 minutes to clear codes and see if that has any effect.....

it may....never used one. it's an OBDC code, not a diagnostic code (which hand scanners can't clear I think)

Something set it off, so I'd sure check the plug and that area too...

Yea a reset didn't do anything. Came right back. Taking it to the place I got I from a few years ago, definitely not the stealership haha. I don't wanna start replacing stuff not knowing what it exactly is.

That should be the Thermostat housing, I work in the Parts Dept at a dealer and they go through those things like hotcakes.

It's missing one O-ring which I'd suggest you replace
Oil cooler O-ring # 55566547

Anything fix the always running fan issue?

I have the same issue and have change the thermostat twice. First just the front part with thermostat built in and then the entire piece. After 2 days the check engine light comes back on and then fan kicks on. I unplug the battery terminal and it takes code out and then after two days it comes back and fan kicks on. For the two days car runs fine and fan goes on and off like normal.

Just a suggestion:

I'd check wiring. Loose connection, or rubbed insulation could both bugger up the signal, but might not do so until they move, hence why it runs for a couple days without issue. Supposedly GM has fixed the modern thermostats, so it seems improbable that you've managed to buy two of the pre-fix thermostats in a row.

I used to get a lot of Mini Coopers that popped that code, and that was usually the culprit (The connector specifically, not the wiring or thermostat).

Just a guess.. . . there might be air in the system somewhere yet after replacing the t-stat housing? A "bubble" of air might collect in the t-stat heater element area or sensor, and screw with what the system "sees". Or the bubble may be preventing proper coolant flow through the system?

I’ll double check the air bubble scenario by raining the front of the car and letting the coolant go back as suggested in a post and maybe pop that top part on housing that when first took off to replace shot coolant up like it was releasing pressure and leave cap off and then start car for a bit. I’ll also track that those wires and try cleaning the connectors with some alcohol where pins are and let dry then connect back up. When the guy with the 3k dollar scanner would reset code. Car ran just fine. Heat got hot. Then fan goes on when car gets to about 226 then cools it back down to about 210 and kicks off. Does great. If he pulled the front plug while running that would be the one closest to bumper and fill area. It popped same code as it would after a couple days. Then he’d plug back up and it would stay unless he cleared code. He works mostly on Toyota’s at his dealership and couldn’t fathom it being the part I just replaced but I replaced it anyway with the entire piece and not just front piece with thermostat. Did same thing two days after replacing. Seems like if I wait about a good 30 hours after code clear it comes back right on schedule. Typically this is after riding home around 5pm then going back out at 6am to leave for work bam code again and since it’s been cold I take off battery terminal for 60 seconds then put back on and I have heat instead of Luke warm lol. So I’ll try those two things you guys said and I’ll write back after I have time over weekend.

Looks like I have the typical situation of needing to replace the thermostat and housing. I'm wondering about this "metal pipe" and o-ring I keep reading about. Is there something between the thermostat and housing, other than the one single o-ring for the thermostat? Is there something between the thermostat and thermostat housing (as if it were one unit) and the engine? I've seen pictures of a pipe that looks like is detached from something - not sure what it is. Anyway - I guess what I'm trying to figure out is when I buy the thermostat and housing, is there something else? I hate having to stop in the middle of a job and go to the parts store. Thanks!
