Pedal Commander with 1.8L Automatic? Anyone. . try it?

I've searched and search doesn't seem to come up with anything or else this topic is buried somewhere.

Wondering if anyone has tried a Pedal Commander or other type throttle control enhancement device . .. specifically on a 1.8L Automatic?

As most know, there seems to be a bit of dead spot or lag in the pedal when taking off even under moderate pedal pressure. I've read of using these devices on vehicles like the newer Chevy Colorados and some seem to say it works fairly well.

Just throwing this out there. If there is a thread covering this please advise!

I think if you get a BNR tune they can alter the throttle position sensor.

Not exactly. I saw a vehicle throttle body demo and most ECMs apply a graduated drive signal to the throttle plate. Slower at first and then more direct in response to pedal position. This is great for smooth take offs and economy, but not so great for the best early pedal movement acceleration. The Pedal Commander changes the rate of throttle plate movement from gradual to more instant depending on what Mode you select for the Pedal Commander settings.

As it does this, yes it also reduces the amount of pedal distance required for full throttle plate opening.

But it does effectively increase throttle response in the first 25% to 40% of throttle plate movement. It will cause the throttle plate to move open faster than what the ECM programming normally would. So, I would think it would improve the *lag* that normal throttle movement seems to exhibit.

Oh yes, the disadvantages of throttle-by-wire. I have only one issue regarding throttle response with my 1.4 turbo hatch. When letting off the throttle, the engine doesn't immediately drop rpm; there is a lag before the rpm actually drops, which makes shifting more of a challenge. If when shifting I simultaneously depress the clutch and release the throttle, the engine speed flares momentarily. To accomplish a smooth shift; one must first release the throttle, then depress the clutch to compensate for the lag in response. This is also why so many have second gear grind in the manual transmission.

I like my GTO, as my foot is directly connected to the throttle plate with a mechanical cable.
