Picking up a slightly used RS-manual next week :banana:. 2014. Is it worth upgrading the head unit to something like this Kenwood DDX9703S DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com ?

Or do you think I'll be happy with the gimped MyLink in the 2014 model!

Hey congrats on your purchase i guarantee you will love the car. Regarding the head unit, many of the cars features are directly tied (linked?) to the mylink system. I'm not an expert on the topic but i don't think you'd want to swap it out. But frankly it's a good infotainment system. Better then most in cars that cost twice as much. Going through the menus could be quicker but beyond that it's great.

No doubt you're excited to pick up your '14 RS. A few owners might add an amp and sub or change out the door speakers but I don't think many have changed out the stock MyLink head unit.
I'm very much into high end home audio and at one time did the same in my cars, but not for many years. I actually like the sound of the Stock MyLink system and have not yet felt a desire to change any component. However I do think the 3 band EQ needs adjustment to get the best sound, which for me means lowering the bass slider several notches and raising the treble several, mid can hover near '0', otherwise the default sounds boomy in the bass and lacking detail in the treble.

Each music source will require different adjustment and can be saved for each source.

As already mentioned, many vehicle setting are done in Mylink so it'd be a risk to change it out.

Ahhh to be young again and into car audio! I had my setups back then too! 12 inch woofers in a big assed wooden box... a big amp under the rear deck... big wires, big fuses!



The Mylink integrates other car functions into it as well, so any upgrade might eliminate them as well...

But yeah, there's a few threads on here of guys upgrading their OEM setup with better speakers & such.

Yeah, in my early 30s so the speakers can stay default I value my ear drums I just have read complaints about mylink/don't like that it won't be upgraded to Android Auto. Hopefully I'll like mylink fine, would rather not spend another basically 1k when all said and done to upgrade!

We definitely get the low end Mylink setup. Hardly any graphics or functionality with apps...

I talked with some GM dealer a lot about switching my 2016 radio with the Spark 2016 or Sonic 2017 to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They found it to integrated with the car to be able to do it.

They just don't have the capability to program the new radio to accept being swapped. The BCM and radio talk and unless they're computer hackers able to rewrite code in both the radio and the BCM it's not going to happen
