Possibly blown head gasket

How hard would it be for a laymen to get to and repair the head gasket ?newgmparts.com has it listed for 13 bucks and don't wanna spend 20x that in labor to do something I could do with the right tools.

If you have to ask this job may be a bit over your ability.

It isn't a terrible job but if you don't do the job correctly you can destroy your engine upon start up.

But stated above, why do you believe the head gasket is blown?

Well this looks to be a R&R of the head so this is at least an idea. Sounds like you wouldn't need to tear things apart as much if you're just replacing the gasket.

After installing MPFabs incooler there is still an oil leak coming from the BOV, also have an oil catch can that seems to be filling up, and made an appt with Chevrolet, hoping they can diagnosis with a compression test to confirm the turbo is ok and/or might try a vapor test, the one that tests for hydrocarbons in the vapor from the radiator in order to diagnosis a potentionally cracked head gasket.

Blown head gasket often presents as coolant being pushed out of the overflow tank under load(boost). Oil in your charge tubes is not a symptom of blown head gasket neither is a catch can filling up.

Check your oil and snap a pic of dipstick and filler cap

Something has to be spitting erl out.
Turbo? Valves/head? I'm just trying to list things that actually come in contact with the erl and have a possibility of leaking.

The cars been in the shop, diagosed with a faulty intake manifold, was missing a baffle and oil was getting sucksd in under boost.

I feel like a lot of people are jumping into catch can installs to "fix" the blowing smoke when letting off throttle problem. Which doesn't fix the problem, but rather just catches the problem in a can.

The intake manifolds were on backorder, could possibly be a recall waiting to happen.

Unless it is a safety issue I do not see it being a recall. Maybe a non advertised special policy, but not a recall.

They should recall the valve cover and intake manifold for having consumable parts in them and not being able to replace them without replacing the whole thing. Grrr. Then they could recall the person who thought that was a good idea.

That same dude had the idea of "grease-less" ball joints, and "permanent" front end alignment for the 88-94 chevy/gmc trucks. It was the only major recall for those stone cold bad a$$ trucks. The recall was for the ball joints, and that included an "Alignment Kit" install.

I'm sure it's the same dude with the plastic end links idea too....:blankface:

Yo, so i got the oil changed a few days ago... today driving home i notice the low oil light on over and engine shook a little plug was gone got more oil and a plug refilled and in startup white smoke came from the exhaust drives ok I'm at about 25k and got tuned notice now it doesn't kick as much from a stophope it's my imagination, could a gasket have blown? Any other signs it would have blown?

Oil pan drain plug came out oil was COMPLETELY drained there was only some for about the first ten seconds after i put more in it's been driving fine no loss of power really or any other signs but was the white smoke an indication of something blowing i.e. cylinder or gasket blowing?
