Quick Trifecta Budget tune question

If I purchase the Trifecta cable (to keep) and budget tune, will I able to flash back to stock myself should the need arise, i.e. returning to the dealership for warranty work? I'm new to the whole tuning thing. Basically, does the cable essentially make my laptop a handheld tuner allowing me to tune and "untune" if need be. From I've read however the tune isn't really detectable at the dealership level.

Yes to flashing back.

So far, dealers are not looking for evidence of 1.4T ecu tuning and I doubt they will. The "transparency" mode Trifecta offers contributes to that.

Yes and yes. You flash the tune on to your car yourself and if needed, flashed back to stock. There is a "transparency" option when flashing the performance tune that makes it seem like only a stock tune was flashed to the car.

A important thing to keep in mind transparency mode or not.If the car has a tune they can find it.Or they can tell it has been reflashed.If a claim is called in or Tech assistance is called.One of the first things they ask is ! Does the car look or is it modified in any way.Those questions you always want to be answered as NO.In other words you dont want a intake or even a cat back exhaust on it.Because if the engine is damaged they may look further.That can involve retrieveing data from the ECM.It counts reflashes (up to 20)and tells the date it was done.If i had a heavy modded car i would have a second ECM that would only show 1 flash in its data.They could tell it was a replacement but that in it self is no reason to be able to void a claim.To sum this up if the car looks completely stock and the engine has a internal problem most likely they are not going to look at ECM programing.But as stated a second ECM acts as a insurance policy if you hear me !

At the dealer level it has been proven by a GM Tech that (at that time, about a year or so ago) the dealer could not detect the tune with transparency mode enabled, the ECM would have to be shipped off and dug into to find anything because there is no flash count increase. I believe the TCM on the autos does increase flash count which would be an indicator that tuning had been done to the car at the dealer level.

I work for them so i have a very good idea of what they can and can not do.At this time they do not look into TCM programing. Red flags have been the duramax and the camaro V6 engine.They have a number of engines that are suspect for aftermarket programing.The 1.4T is not on that list now that i know of.

Correct me if my information is wrong, but I was under the impression that your warranty shouldn't be in jeopardy based on flash count alone.

I could understand if you took it in tuned, but if it is flashed back to stock there really isn't evidence as to what was in the tune - so it would be hard to prove it was an aftermarket tune based on only the flash counter.

Thoughts or opinions?

It would have to be proven that the flash count is from a aftermarket tune..
