Rear Ended

A month or so ago, while I was in Texas, my GF was driving my Sonic and got rear ended at a stop light. Barely any visible damage to the Sonic, while the Mazda that hit her was really crunched, headlights, foglights, grill all pretty bad looking... but not bad enough to stop the car running. They exchanged insurance information and went on their ways.

I called State Farm later that day, got hooked up with a body shop and an explaination of how to file for medical if there was anything... GF was achy for a couple weeks but doesn't seem to have any long term damage worth pursuing.

The rear bumper of the Sonic was popped out of its tabs along the right side, but it looked like I could just shove it back in place and go on with my life. However, since the other driver admitted fault, State Farm encouraged me to get it checked out.

Turns out there was substantial damage hidden beneath the bumper, to the tune, when all was said and done, of $2023.64, including not only some repairs and replaces, but also Rt.RR Cam/Toe.

All paid for... but my point is, if you get bumped, you might want to check out what's happened behind the nice clean looking plastic. I would have sworn no damage had been done at all!

You dont think the shop just milked it for a couple grand? Did you actually see what was wrong that cost 2 grand? Thats just what comes to mind if that happened to me. I mean i know you dont have to pay, but i still wonder.

he is right. have it checked out. back in 2012 when i had only had my sonic for a few months, i had my left rear backed into by a silverado. and they figured about $800, then got it inside and found that it had $2,600 in damage done to it that was only seen once the car was stripped down and bumper removed. so what swordsmith is saying is dont take what you see lightly, could very well be way more done to it...

Years back I was rear ended sending my car into the car in front of me. My neck was sore but I shrugged it off and said I'll be fine. It did eventually go away but 10+ years later I have neck pain again. I went to my wife's chiropractor and got checked out. After looking at the x-rays he said "This didn't just happen, you had a neck injury years ago that you didn't get taken care of." I couldn't remember any neck injury, then I remembered that accident.

My wife's Sonic was backed into in a parking lot. Both her and the other driver were going less than 5mph. The damage to both cars was pretty minor, but the body shop had to take apart the door and unbend some thing to paint. All in all it was $1500.
